The first SEC Tournament Quarterfinal game between Tennessee and Mississippi State will begin at 19:00 UK Time. After that, Auburn and South Carolina take the court. This 4 vs 5 seed battle will start on ESPN about half an hour after the Vols and Bulldogs exit the Bridgestone Arena floor.

The winners of each game will face each other in the semifinals on Saturday, and then two more SEC Tournament games will fill the day with a four-pack of college hoops action in  Music City,

South Carolina earned a first-round bye and took on Arkansas on Thursday night in the second round of the SEC Tournament in Nashville. The Gamecocks produced a convincing 80 – 66 win over the Hogs but Collin Murray-Boyles needed to put up an outstanding effort to get them there.

Murray-Boyles scored 24 of the 80 points for the Cocks, and he normally averages just over 10 PPG this season. South Carolina’s leading scorer in the regular season only came away with 6 points in the win over Arkansas. Meechie Johnson struggled to find the hoop all night. Johnson went 0 for 4 shooting from behind the arc and 3 of 10 from the floor while not getting to the free-throw line once.

South Carolina only got 12 points from their bench against Arkansas, and 8 of those points came from one player, Josh Gray.

It’s almost like the box score doesn’t add up to 80 points because South Carolina didn’t have a good shooting night as a team, to say the least. The Cocks only hit 3 of their 15 shots from behind the 3-point line, and the 13 for 21 from the charity stripe is an ugly stat too.

Auburn has been off since their March 9th win over Georgia when they played their final regular season game, giving them a 3-game win streak entering the SEC tourney. The Tigers offense has averaged 83.5 PPG this campaign, which ranks them 13th in the nation in scoring.

In the only meeting between these two programs, the Tigers belted out a 40-point win over the Gamecocks, 101 – 61, and that is just about as humiliating as it gets.

The Gamecocks just snapped an 0 – 5 drought that dates back to 2018 without winning an SEC Tournament game, and this season has been a special one for Lamont Paris’ bunch. Paris needed a big response after a tough 11 – 21 first season since taking over for Frank Martin, and he’s got his program headed for the NCAA Tournament.
