MLB Run Total Best Bet: Thursday June 23rd
The Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants broke out the bats yesterday but that doesn’t have our resident baseball expert Ej Garr thinking that it will happen again on Thursday. Currently, on an 8 – 1 – 1 run, the total has Ej’s eye again but runs are not the call of the day!

There were 22 runs yesterday in Atlanta between these two teams as the Giants levelled the series at a game a piece making this the rubber game. Listen, just because the bats showed up big on Wednesday simply does not mean they will be able to go out and repeat that performance.
Yesterday’s starting pitchers were nowhere near the calibre of the two dudes taking the mound today as Kyle Wright gets the go for the Braves and Alex Wood is the expected starter for the Giants. In addition to that, we all know that these two teams are not regularly hitting their overs by any stretch of the imagination so one day means nothing to me.
The Braves bats had been extremely quiet going into yesterday’s game as they struggled to score against the Cubs for 3 days and the first game of this series was just a 2 – 1 affair on Tuesday.
Alex Wood has only given up one home run over his last 7 starts and his last 3 outings have all been spectacular. I can listen to your argument about the 3 teams he faced, however, because he did only have to deal with Miami, Colorado, and the Royals over those starts. Noted.
The Braves are certainly not any of those 3 squads and I do not expect them to be shut down for too long but this total is too high IMO. Kyle Wright has hit 10 of his 13 unders this season and his 2.94 ERA is respectable enough too.
As you look over the body of Work that Wright is putting together this campaign, outside of that Red Sox start the numbers he is putting up are truly a sign of an ace. The Under is a perfect 5 – 0 in Wright’s last 5 starts and I don’t understand the 9.5 total here. The line setters are convinced that yesterday will carry over into today, and I am not.
Well, let’s make them pay for that because we are not seeing 10 runs here and that is all we need to avoid. 5 – 4 Braves suits me just fine so make a play on this total to stay Under and I will see you at the window again.
More injuries for the Giants are concerning because now their SS Brandon Crawford is dealing with a knee issue that saw him sit out of yesterday’s affair. I don’t expect he’ll be back today, especially with the Dodgers series on deck for San Francisco. Who doesn’t love a good Giants / Dodgers matchup? I expect the Giants to be thinking about getting out of town to return to the west coast after this game and that is a bit of distraction I hope works in our favour.
