Welcome to the beginning of the week as another Monday rolls around which usually means plenty of new series’ taking place. That is the case when the Diamondbacks play host to the Reds as our resident MLB guru Ej Garr hopes runs come early and often in the desert after both team just met last week.

Both teams had to gear up and travel after their Sunday games to get here as the Reds and D-Backs meet for the second time in a week. The Reds opened the 4-game set with a pair of wins and Arizona responded with two wins of their own to draw the series level. 

After both teams played 3-game sets on the road, they are already familiar with each other and we have the same pitching matchup that we had on June 8 which was the 3rd game of that 4-game set. Considering the Diamondbacks won the game, 7 – 0, that tells a bit of the first part of the story that unfolded.

Merrill Kelly pitched 6 solid innings and only allowed a single hit with 5K and 3 BB as 3 relievers all popped in for an inning and finished the job to get Kelly the win. It’s not Kelly we’re fading to see runs cross the plate it is his opposition that is toeing the mound we are suspect about.

Mike Minor gave up 2 home runs in his start against the Reds and he was lit up for 3 homers in his first and only other start this campaign on June 3rd against Washington. Let’s just say that Arizona and Washington have had their moments offensively but I think he just likes women if you know what I mean. Chicks dig the long ball, and one thing he does well is serving it on a platter with chocolate syrup, ice cream, and a cherry on top.

That is not how the saying was meant to be used, however, so being on the wrong side of those long balls is something that Minor has become entirely too accustomed to seeing over the years. Minor surrendered 26 bombs a season ago and in all 6 of his campaigns when he stayed healthy he has given up 20+ home runs. He is on his way there again with 5 through only 2 damn starts so imagine if he gives up 3 more today? 

Wait, we’re not imagining anything anymore Toto, so we are just expecting Minor to do what he does which is watching his outfielders look into the stands looking to make a play on the baseball. Oh, in case you hadn’t heard, when the crowd past the outfield wall has more souvenirs than all the kinds in section 108? Yeah, that’s a problem!
