That‘s right, there is a bowl of oranges on the table so you better take me up on my offer of the Over 7.5 runs when the D’Backs and Buccs open this 3-game set at PNC Park. Now, let’s start with the fact that both teams enjoyed Thursday off to regroup and not be rushed to get to the east coast and play right away. 

The Pirates just played two 3-game sets on the road against San Diego and the Dodgers and I would venture to say that trip went about as good as it can get. Sweeping the Dodgers after losing 2 of 3 games to the Padres revealed a 4 – 2 trip and there was likely a good mood in the cabin for that plane ride back to PA for the Buccs. 

The Diamondbacks just played 9 straight home games with all sorts of results to talk about. After taking two wins from a mini-2 game set against the Royals, the Dodgers went into the desert and swept the 4-game series with Arizona before the Braves showed up to town. The snakes won the first two games of the series with the Braves but lost the finale of the 3-game set, 6 – 0, before hopping on a jet plane for home. 

Now, let’s talk lines because I see 1.89 and 1.87 at about every major outlet carrying the O/U 7.5 on the total toward the over, and the two starting pitchers are going to help us cash this ticket.

Merrill Kelly is the listed starter for the road team and after getting off to a great start to the campaign his outings of late suggest he is already starting to revert to the pitcher he was a season ago. Last year, Kelly was caught giving up 21 home runs in 27 starts a year ago, and after not allowing any bombs in his first 6 outings of 2022, he has now been lit up for the long ball in 3 of his last 4 starts. So, and oh, hey! Did you like y Gomber to give up 2 home run calls last night? I know!!

Anyway, JT Brubaker will oppose Kelly on the mound for the Pirates and the dude is still looking for his first win of the season with 10 starts in the books. Brubaker gave up 28 home runs in 2021 but I will give him credit for hitting the under in his last 4 starts. That is good for us because that trend needs to even out again and get back to supporting runs and the weather should help us out a little too.

It is supposed to shower overnight and in spots throughout the morning and early afternoon but then the skies are supposed to open up for a gorgeous weekend on the east coast. The humidity will support a ball cruising through the air and the 7.5 is just too low for us to leave sitting there unattended and by its lonesome.
