The Oakland As have taken 3 of the first 4 games in their series with the Tigers after the two teams split wins in the doubleheader on Tuesday. The Tigers are calling up Joey Wentz to make his MLB debut on Wednesday and our MLB guy Ej Garr is pointing toward a low-scoring affair in this final game of the 4-game set.

Joey Wentz is making his major-league debut on Wednesday and the line setters seem to already think the world of him. Favoured in your MLB debut?

You can run around the net and read all about how he has worked on his cutter in AAA to be prepared for his first start in the bigs. He reminds me of a young Madison Bumgarner when he was full of confidence with San Francisco winning titles. Wentz was certainly impressive again in his final tune-up in AAA and that #41 on his back there looks like he jumped up to #43 in Detroit.

I am not about to recommend that you put your hard-earned cash on Joey Wentz and the Tigers even though the Athletics are surely not very good either. Both teams have gotten off to a terrible start to the season and I don’t think any of us expect that to change as the year goes on. Offensively challenged much?

If you can sit through a pitching duel, then you have your game to watch on Wednesday because I suspect a 3 – 2 game here. The As are sending Zach Logue to toe the slab and he too doesn’t have much MLB experience. Logue had one outing in April where he pitched 1⅓ innings in relief and he made his only start against Minnesota on May 6.

A pair of young lefties getting to showcase their skills is what we’re getting here and they both have the luxury of pitching against two of the worst offences in baseball. Are you a fan of rankings and stats? Well, you probably already know that when you are ranked 30th in the league in scoring runs and a batting average we’ve got ourselves a little issue! The As offence strikes out way too often and there is simply no one on either side who is tearing the cover off the ball. Both unders in the DH cashed yesterday and I don’t see why these two lefties can’t control the situation again tonight.

The Under is 7 – 0 the last 7 outings for the As and the Tigers under has cashed in all 8 of their last 8 affairs. So, all we are doing here is hoping to see one more with two pitchers we should expect to see for years to come. The future is bright for both of them and I hope they come out and show us what they can do.

I wouldn’t even say we’re riding the trends as much as we are just playing something until it stops happening time and again. Baseball is one of those sports where things can happen for weeks until adjustments are made to change the dynamic. Trends in baseball can be worth it if you are just paying attention to the things going on around you. It’s not just chasing a trend as much as it is just an expectation to see something continue to happen night after night.
