MLB Best Bet: Tuesday May 3rd
After the Cardinals earned a win in last night’s makeup game against the Royals, 1 – 0, the two teams meet again for a quick, 2-game set on Tuesday and Wednesday in St. Louis. Our resident MLB expert Ej Garr has found a reasonable line for our readers to play towards the Cards to follow up last night’s home win against the Royals with another tonight in Kansas City.

The St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals will jump on a bus, get on US I-70, and meet for another 2-game series in Kansas City on Tuesday night. After using their day off on Monday to conclude their original 2-game set that was scheduled early in April, the Cardinals will be looking to improve to 3 – 0 vs the Royals in 2022.
If you missed last night’s game, Zach Grienke and Steven Matz each pitched extremely well as the Cardinals eventually came away with the win, 1 – 0. Matz pitched 6 innings of unearned ball and struck out 4 Royals batters while only allowing 4 hits in the game.
Grienke also pitched 6 innings and only allowed 3 hits but his earned run ended up being responsible for the only run of the game. Grienke is now 0 – 2 to start the 2022 campaign and Matz improved to 3 – 1 to open his season for the Cards.
Dakota Hudson will be making the start for the Red Birds tonight as he hopes to build on his 2 – 1 record and sparkling 2.75 ERA. Hudson’s first start of the season came against these Royals on April 12th and he allowed 2 homers in a no-decision after the Cards came back and won the game, 6 – 5.
Hudson has not allowed a home run in any of the last 3 starts since the outing against KC, but his K to BB ratio is a concern (14/9). Hell, even being back on the field again after missing the bulk of the last 2 seasons is an accomplishment and Hudson is making the most of it so far.
Brad Keller is listed as the expected starter for the Royals and things have not gotten off to a great start for him yet. The Royals are 2 – 2 in his four starts but what you see on paper is 0 – 2 with an ERA of 2.19 which is impressive enough. Keller has thrown 7 innings in two of his 4 starts this season and the HR he gave up to none other than 9th place batting Leury Garcia was his only mistake last time out against the Chi-Sox. That’s Garcia’s only dinger of the 2022 campaign and he’s batting like .118 or something stupid so we’ll let that one slide.
The line for this game is undoubtedly why making a play on St. Louis is worth the effort because 1.90 is more than fair to fade the Royals again. The Cardinals are finding ways to win games and the Royals are finding ways to lose them so until that changes we go Red Birds!
