MLB Best Bet: Tuesday, May 24th
The San Francisco Giants are playing so well right now that they’re favourites tonight at home against the lowly NY Mets. And if you believe any of that nonsense you should stop betting on baseball and pay attention to what is really happening on the field. Our resident U.S sports expert Ej Garr is all over the line setters again in this spot and he was being 100% sarcastic with that opening statement.

Favoured? WHAT? Hold on, let me go get a drink because I think I might need to get a little tipsy to make sense of this line. That says 1.75 if you want to drink all of that juice with the Giants or we can think underdog on the team that is playing great baseball at the moment.
The Giants have now lost 5 straight games after getting thumped on Monday night against these same Mets, 13 – 2. So, naturally, the line setters want to get as many people on the Giants as they can because the REAL BETTORS LIKE US will be on the Mets on Tuesday night. Stupid is as stupid does and this line is just stupid.
I had a great view of the game last night because I don’t miss Yankees and Mets affairs on the table if I can help it. So, I see and hear everything when it comes to both teams, from pre-game to ensure the lineups are true, then I’ll sit through the game itself, and then I try to tune in for post-game if there’s a need for me to get more from either team.
Oh, the Giants were listed as 1.75 favourites on Monday night too, so how did that go for them? Hmm hmm, smashed by the Mets in their ballpark and if you know one thing about the New Yorkers this season they are just taking series after series wins this year.
So, opening up with David Peterson to start the series on the bump, you could see he was full of emotion when he got out of a big 3rd inning jam. The fist on the air and the mighty roar of ‘YEAH’ could be heard by the Bay, and Peterson retired the last 11 batters that he faced as he went 6 innings striking out the ageing Evan Longoria on his 100th pitch of the night.
Peterson and Alex Cobb were last night’s starters and the Mets will send newly acquired Chris Bassitt from the As to the hill on Tuesday. I have covered a few Mets games here and Bassitt has started a couple of those so you have probably seen me talk about the influence he will have in this rotation.
Now, he will be even more relied on after the news of Max Scherzer being out for the next 6-8 weeks. We all know Jacob deGrom is still out and Tylor Megill just joined them on the DL so that will put a lot of pressure on Bassitt, Carrasco, Peterson, Walker, and company to get results in the meantime. No one is scared to take the mound for the Mets right now because the team is hitting the baseball so well as a team and giving starters good support.
The Giants have already fielded 46 players which is the most in baseball and all that does is point to a lack of success and keeping dudes healthy. Brandon Belt is back on the DL again and his influence at the plate and on the field is being missed for the Giants. And then we can talk outfield? The GIants have an entire outfield on the DL and you heard Keith and Gary talking about it during the 4th inning of the telecast on SNY.
Austin Slater is out, Kamonte Wade Jr is out, and Steven Duggar is also out I mean can someone call Hotlips Houlihan and see if we can get a MASH unit started by the Bay?
J.D Davis had himself a great pick-me-up night with 4 hits and he really needed to get his bat back in form for the Mets. The Polar Bear went yard and now Pete Alonso currently leads the National League with 40 RBI. The Mets put up 18 hits in the win last night to just add insult to injury if you will and when they find out they are the underdog tonight I wish I could be a fly on the wall!
With 2 outs this season, the Mets lead all of baseball with 90 runs scored and I could go on and on and on. All 9 players in the starting lineup managed to find a hit and 6 players had at least 2 knocks to support the Peterson outing and win game 1 of the 3-game series in San Francisco. Speaking of the post-game, we saw the last question Buck Showalter took in his presser was about Peterson’s reaction coming off the mound in the 3rd inning when he got out of that jam.
Yes listen, we’re going with the underdog, the value, and taking the Mets to find another win so get in on that action and I will see you at the window again!
