After a disappointing result on Monday to start the week, our resident MLB expert Ej Garr looks to rebound with a play from the game being played at Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox play host to the Guardians on Tuesday and the home team is strongly favoured to take the victory in game 2 of the 3-game set between division opponents. That means all of the value is in the road dog so a play on Cleveland to surprise the Sox with a win comes in as the POD.

White Sox vs Guardians Best Bet

May 11 01:10, (UK time)

Lucas Giolito will be starting for the White Sox on Tuesday night at home and that does not exactly fill me with confidence on Chicago to win this game. Both teams are basically .500 coming into tonight’s game so I think I would honestly take the underdog blindfolded just because of the number being put on the table from the line setters.

Chicago at 1.51 or Clevland at 2.65? Seriously, I just needed to see that line and I knew the POD from me was going to be the Guardians no matter the weather, the starters, nor the shape of the teams coming into the game because they are both playing well right now.

Going into Monday night’s game to begin this 3-game series, Cleveland and Chicago had both won 7 of their last 8 games and the Guardians were listed as 2.71 underdogs to open the 3-game set. I figured I would tune in and watch Monday night’s game knowing I was going to write this up tonight. At first, I thought it might be an exciting game when Cleveland scored a run in the top of the first and Chicago responded with 4 of their own.

The game settled down from there and neither side scored again until the bottom of the 7th and what happened from there I don’t have time to write about. The Sox took an 8 – 2 lead into the top of the 9th inning and Cleveland fought back to tie the game up at 8 – 8 with 6 runs in the frame. Chicago loaded the bases and it looked like they were going to send the crowd home happy but to the 10th inning they went. You see the final score and what a damn game it was to just sit and watch!

Tonight, I mentioned Giolito is going for the Sox and in case you have’t really noticed yet look at his career record? Every year I hear folks who do the fantasy thing talking about taking Giolito because he’s due for a big season. I will give you that his ERA over the last 4 years has been pretty respectable but it hasn’t translated into wins. Giolito is a 50/50 coin toss any and every night he tales the mound and we’ve seen it again this season.

From 4 starts Giolito has 1 win to show for his efforts and yes, all of the starters are facing tough situations because of the strike shortened spring training. The 32 to 8 K /BB ratio isn’t the problem as much as he struggles to keep the ball in the yard.

Cleveland will send Cal Quantrill to the bump on Tuesday and he has yet to surrender more than 3 earned runs in any of his 5 starts this campaign. Quantrill has hurled no less than 6 innings in either of his last 3 starts and he does an outstanding job of keeping the ball down and not giving up the long ball. Only 1 HR has been allowed by Quantrill but the walks are a big concern with that WHIP getting him in trouble.

The Cleveland offence is among the best in baseball as they rank 2nd in MLB with a batting average of .257 as a team whilst putting up 4.84 runs per game.

One thing Giolito doesn’t get is run support in his outings, and the Chi-Sox offence has struggled a good bit this season to begin with. Chicago ranks 24th scoring 4.47 runs per game and the team has not scored more than 4 runs in any of Giolito’s starts this season.

For me, the 2.67 price and the Quantrill factor point me to a Tribe win… wait, I can’t call them Tribe anymore? Man, fine, it point’s me to a Guardians’ win then!
