The Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox will wrap up what ends up being a 5-game series on Thursday afternoon and our resident MLB expert Ej Garr is hoping that the two starting pitchers give up some early runs. With a play on the 1st 5-inning total, we expect to see 5 runs across the plate before the midway point of the game.

The Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox are now playing a 5-game set and the winner of this game on Thursday afternoon will take the rubber game in the series. The White Sox won the first game of the series on Monday night and the two teams split the doubleheader on Tuesday night. 

The White Sox called up Davis Martin to make the start for Tuesday night’s affair helping to reset the rotation for the rest of the week. Martin held his own for the most part hurling 5 innings with 7 Ks while only allowing a single walk in his first effort in the bigs. Unfortunately, he picked up the loss because he exited the game down 1 – 0 and the Royals tacked on their second run in the 6th inning while the Sox only scored once in the 8th inning.

Brady Singer threw 7 innings and had full control of the White Sox bats striking out 9 batters and only surrendering 4 hits without a walk against him. How’s this for control? Singer left the game after reeling off 93 pitches and 70 of those balls were in the strike zone. That’s a stupid 75% of his tosses for strikes but yet he still left the Sox looking confused and out of sorts. 

Zach Grienke and Lucas Giolito took the mound last night and neither starter was involved with the decision as each gave up 2 earned runs apiece. Giolito came out after 5 IP and Grienke made it two outs into the 6th inning after throwing exactly 100 pitches for the night. Reynaldo Lopez came on for Giolito and the 2 runs he surrendered in the first of his 2 innings pitched was the difference as he picked up the loss in an eventual 6 – 2 Royals win.

All of that is well and good but I am hoping that this game does nothing to resemble any of these last 4 games because we’re going over the total in the 1st 5 innings and I’ll tell you why in 4 words or less.

Vince Velasquez; Carlos Hernandez. Those are our two starters for this matchup this afternoon and that points us to early runs being scored. We need a 3 – 2 game to push our action on the Over 5 in the 1st innings and if it isn’t 3 – 2 by then I might have to just stop thinking I know a damn thing about baseball betting anymore. Don’t think for a second that I don’t see that the under is 4 – 0 in these 4 games played to this point, because I am well aware of it.

The total on the game itself is 9.5 and sure, I might have expected that under to be the play that I was going to suggest until I just thought about when and where the runs would come in this game. I see them coming early and I hope they just get the 6 runs we need and we can get out there with a cashed ticket in our hands. These two bullpens have certainly proven to be a strength for their respective teams to this point of the season so it could be a challenge to find the runs later rather than earlier in the game.

Call emergency because Hernandez’s ERA is 9.11 and his team is 1 – 5 when he toes the slab this season. That WHIP of over 2 screams that he just can’t find the plate and putting men on base for free usually pans out to runs being scored against you.

Vince Velasquez has pitched almost as poorly with an ERA of 5.53 and a WHIP of 1.52.

Simply put, these two dudes starting this game get themselves into their trouble and they have had no luck working their way out of those jams thus far. It better not work for them today because I decided to pick on them both for throwing so much junk this season!
