The Atlanta Braves salvaged their 3-game series with Arizona finding a win on Wednesday after losing the first two games of the series to the Diamondbacks. They’ll pick up their things and make the quick jaunt north to Denver where the weather is supposed to be warming up along with an unusual high humidity count.
Humidity is not something we are accustomed to seeing a mile high in the sky so we need to take advantage of it while the getting is good. Oh, in case you didn’t pay attention to anything else that happened on Wednesday, the Rockies played a double-header with the Marlins.
So, how much time do you have? Would you like me to dish off the events of the double-header because there is plenty to discuss with you all? Game 1 happened and the Fish poured in 14 runs in an absolute thumping of the Rockies, 14 – 1. Game 2 is still going on if you’re reading this as they went to extra innings tied at 11 and they just kept playing until you woke up in England the next morning.
Sarcastically, I mean my goodness. Seeing a total of 11 for this game is like asking us to put butter on our toast but then you saw the cream cheese so you wanted a bagel instead and then the scent of bacon caught your nostrils. Bacon is the 6th food group and we’re going to make some of it by cashing in this Over 11 ticket.
The Rockies and Marlins both poured in 11 runs through 9 innings in game 2 and the 77-degree day with humidity up high points to more runs being scored no matter who takes the mound. On top of that, we know both teams have offences that can each break out a 3-4 run rally in a heartbeat and I hope we see about 6 of those on Thursday night in Denver.
With Atlanta having to travel following up a nice 6 – 0 win yesterday, I think the mood will be, at least, a little lighter by avoiding the sweep at the hands of the Diamondbacks.
Ian Anderson and Austin Gomber are the expected starters for this game and Anderson is coming off arguably his worst outing of the season last time out. Anderson gave up a pair of bombs but he did only give up 4 earned through 5⅔ against those same Marlins. The Braves still came away with the win, 6 – 4, even though Anderson had no part in the decision.
While Anderson hasn’t had a decision go his way over his last 4 starts, Austin Gomber is going to give up two home runs today, mark my words. The dude has surrendered the long ball in 5 of his 8 starts this campaign and his 5.51 ERA pretty much sums up his season has gone thus far. Gomber gave up 20 home runs a season ago, but his 2 to 1 K to BB ratio this year is also concerning.
Even though Anderson should be able to control the Rockies bats, for the most part, he will still have to deal with the humidity in a park that loves fly balls, to begin with. So, we point to the total and bang out the Over 11 with a decent line of 1.82 at Pinnacle. And remember to look for the prop for Gomber to give up a home run today because as I said, he will give up a pair today!
- Selection: Over 11 Runs
- Best odds: 1.82 (Pinnacle)
- Stakes 4/10
