After the weather spoiled the first two games of the series between the Rangers and Yankees, the two teams played a double-header on Sunday and will now play an afternoon game on Monday to complete the set. The oddsmakers have challenged us to make a play and our resident MLB expert Ej Garr is also challenging everyone to jump on this over 7 in Gotham

MLB Best Bet May 9th

NY Yankees vs Texas Best Bet

May 9, 18:05 (UK time)

I know, you’re thinking the dude is crazy suggesting we make a play on this total after seeing the baseball played on Sunday between these two teams. The Yankees scored 2 runs in game 1 of the doubleheader and won the game, 2 – 1 and then the home team scored 2 runs in game 2 and lost the ballgame, 4 – 2.

Now, we’re talking about the Texas Rangers holding down the New York Yankees in back-to-back games at Yankee Stadium so try to soak that in. Starting pitching for the Rangers has been a massive debit on the Texas ledger in 2022 but they had no issue keeping the Yankees off the board on Sunday.

Dane Dunning duelled with Gerrit Cole in Game 1 and neither starter got a decision as the Yankees won the game in the bottom of the 9th in walk-off fashion. Cole struck out 10 Rangers and went 6⅓ innings hurling a season-high 114 pitches.

Neither starter in Game 2 came away with a decision as Glenn Otto and Jordan Montgomery both gave up 2 earned runs hurling 5 and 6 innings resp. Otto has been the shining light in the Texas starting rotation having only allowed 2 ER or less in each of his 3 outings this season. Michael King finally cracked for the Yankees as his scoreless innings streak was impressive before the 7th inning happened.

Here is why we are putting Sunday behind us and playing this over on Monday in the Big House. The weather here in New York looks like it should be a perfect Spring day and Jon Gray is starting for Texas. Hi, I said Jon Gray is starting for Texas and he is singularly going to give up the 7 runs we need to cash this ticket. Gray has only pitched in 3 games this season and I expect no more than 3 innings pitched out of him and then the Texas bullpen gets 6 innings from there. At that point, it won’t matter because we’ll be sitting pretty with our runs crossed the plate, and don’t give me the tired stuff either.

Nestor Cortez Jr. was surprisingly been stellar out of the gate this season and he is simply following up on the tone he set last season. Cortez doesn’t have more than a 90 MPH fastball but his location and off-speed stuff still manage to catch people off guard. We are seeing more chinks in his armour and the more starts he gets the more the numbers will start to go in the other direction.

They played two games yesterday, right? Okay, they had Friday and Saturday off and those games were called early so it’s not like they were preparing and ready to go for either PPD game. The line setters have left us some room with value here too because I see even money on the Over 7 which means our ROI should appreciate us today.
