MLB Best Bet: Monday April 25th
The Rockies and Phillies are set to play their second series in a week and our resident MLB expert Ej Garr believes the line setters have dropped the baseball. Colorado took 2 of 3 games in the first series these two teams played in Denver last week and amazingly, the Rockies are winning road games this season!

Philadelphia Philiies vs Colorado Rockies Best Bet

Do you remember when the Rockies made their inaugural appearance in MLB? It was 1993 and winning at home has seemingly come easily while finding victories away from home has seemed nearly impossible over the history of this franchise
Colorado finished in 4th place in their division last season and the 26 – 54 road record was certainly a cause for their lack of overall success. Many a tipster who has followed baseball has been keen to fade the Rockies away from home over the years and it goes back to the first season of existence.
Let’s throw out the tiny 2020 campaign even though the Rockies were 14 – 16 in the ‘Covid-19 cardboard fans in the crowd’ year.
In the previous 2019 campaign, the Rockies were a dismal 28 – 53 on the road, and in their first season of 1993, the Rockies were that exact 28 – 53. They were already showing signs of the future so what was the point of taking you down this historical adventure?
When the Rockies took wins from 2 of the 3 games in Denver last week against these Phillies, Kyle Freeland put up his best pitching performance of the young season. Despite not getting the win to his credit, the team won the game and that still builds confidence for a starter who is in search of his first W of the year. On paper, most folks see 0 – 2, and Freeland’s ERA way up at 7.71, and then we factor in the history of Colorado on the road.
Freeland only allowed 2 earned runs in his start against this same Philly team that the Rockies ended up with a win, 6 – 5.
Kyle Gibson will go head-to-head with Freeland for the second time this season when they both take the mound tonight, and they certainly held their own in last week’s affair. Gibson ended up pitching 6 innings and he only gave up 3 earned runs with a no-decision.
The Rockies have been scoring this season and it’s why they rank 6th in all of MLB averaging just under 5 runs a game. In addition, Colorado is the 2nd best team in the league with a .270 team batting average along with their .759 team OPS.
In direct opposition, the Phillies’ defense is a complete mess and they might be without Didi Gregorius again who has been out of the lineup with a hand injury. By the same token, the Rockies pitching stats has left much to be desired as they rank 30th in MLB giving up a .280 batting average.
What is doing the most for me is this line that is featured at Bet365 showing 2.55 towards the Rockies Moneyline. So, you’re trying to tell me that the Phillies deserve to be favored at 1.50 and the Rockies have no chance to win this game? I don’t think so!
- Selection: Rockies to win
- Best odds: 2.65 (bet365)
- Stakes 4/10
