The bats were nice and quiet on Thursday night to begin this 4-game series, and I will tell you that I expect more of the same on Friday. 

This pitching matchup had me on the under regardless of what happened last night, and all that ultimately did was give me more confidence. 

Jordan Montgomery spent the first 6.5 years of his career with the NY Yankees, but the last two seasons have seen him changing uniforms at the trade deadline. After spending a calendar year with St. Louis, Montgomery landed in Texas to finish out the 2023 campaign. All he did was go 3 – 1 in the post-season for the Texas Rangers en route to helping the franchise hoist their first banner.

Montgomery signed with the Diamondbacks in March for $25M with an option for 2025. He is finally making his first start of the season for Arizona tonight, and I expect him to be ready to go.

The defending NL Cy Young Award winner will be taking the mound for the Giants, and I still can’t believe the Padres just let him go. It isn’t too often we see a Cy Young winner switch teams the following season, but that’s what Blake Snell had to do.

The Padres didn’t want to offer an aging veteran a deal, and the Giants said thank you very much, we’ll pay him! Snell is under contract for the next two seasons with the Giants, and they gave him a hefty $62M to drive up the California coast. My Giants vs Diamondbacks prediction is for under 8 runs.
