After an 0 – 5 start to the 2024 MLB campaign, the Mets have climbed back over .500 having won 6 of their last 7 games. While the Mets are picking up the pace, the Dodgers are struggling to stay on top of the NL West Division table.

The Mets and Dodgers will each have Thursday off, although Los Angeles will continue their home stand that has produced a 2 – 4 record over the last week. 

The Dodgers will send Yoshi Yamamoto to the bump to make his fifth start this season. Yamamoto has yet to see the 6th inning in any of his starts, and the Mets are hoping Sean Manaea can provide a spark.

Fading the Dodgers at home might not seem like the best plan, but it didn’t stop the Nationals from winning two games in three days as huge underdogs. The Nationals were listed at +380 underdogs to open the series with LA last Monday and that dog barked loud and proud! 

The Mets arrive in Los Angeles as the expected dogs, and all that does is make me like their chances even more. I think these two offenses will have a field day at Dodger Stadium to open this series on Friday night.

With the total set at 8.5, I almost decided to post the Over as the best bet because of the two pitchers starting this game.

Yamamoto still hasn’t figured out how to pitch in the States, and I don’t think he is worth his weight in salt! The Dodgers paid the Japanese starter $325M for the next 12 years, and here is what will happen… Five years, at best!  His contract will be one of the worst investments the Dodgers have made in the last 25 years. 

I don’t have the time or space to tell you why I feel this way, but time will prove me right. 

The Mets will win this game, and the Over will fly in with it. If you want to get extreme value from this game, put the Mets with the Over 8.5 together, and get paid handsomely. My Dodgers vs Mets prediction is for the Mets to win.

LA Dodgers News, Injury Report, Schedule: Dodgers Lacking Consistency

The Dodgers are struggling to find consistency, as they have yet to win more than two successive games since early April. After losing two of three games against the Nationals to start the week, a day off on Thursday might do this team some good. 

Los Angeles will face the Mets for the next three days, and then a trip to the East Coast is up next. The Dodgers will have to deal with the Nationals again starting next week, and then it’s on to Canada. 

After three games in Toronto to face the Blue Jays, the Dodgers will head to Arizona for a three-game set to finish the month of April. 

NY Mets News, Injury Report, Schedule: Mets Catching Fire After Rough Start

The Mets will play three games against the Dodgers through the weekend, and a trip up the coast to face the Giants comes next. After a day off to travel on April 25, the Mets will return to Citi Field for a 3-game set against the Cardinals. 

Brett Bady left Tuesday’s game with a tight hamstring, and he sat out on Wednesday, as a result. Bady is questionable to return for the Friday night series opener in LA.

New York has four starting pitchers on the shelf, and none are due to return anytime soon. Tylor Megill injured his shoulder during the opening start of the campaign, and he could be absent until June. David Patterson is also expected out until June with a torn Labrum in his left hip.
