Chicago Cubs vs Houston Astros Prediction, Expert Picks, Odds, News, for 4/24/24
The Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros resume their series on Wednesday from Wrigley Field, and the road team can’t seem to find a win lately. Our Cubs vs Astros prediction at 1.91 is available below!
The Astros have been reduced to a 7 – 17 record this season after losing the first game of the series in Chicago on Tuesday night, 7 – 2. Houston can be found in the basement of the AL West Division table, and that is a position we haven’t seen this organization in quite a few years.
The Cubs are in a battle with Milwaukee atop the NL Central Division table, but there is a long, long way to go this year. Ej is expecting more struggles from the road team, as the pitching staff is giving up a mass amount of runs all too often.

CHICAGO CUBS VS HOUSTON ASTROS PICKS AND PREDICTION: ASTROS LOSSES MOUNTING UP
- Selection: Chicago Cubs Moneyline
- Best Odds: 1.91
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stakes: 4/10
Odds as of April 24th 2024. Odds may now differ.
The Houston Astros post-season streak is in jeopardy with a 7 – 17 record through 24 games, and their pitching staff hasn’t done much to support the cause in 2024.
With a whopping 5.39 runs allowed per game this season, the Stros are tied with the Marlins having allowed 131 runs already. The league is enjoying the revenge tour for all of the success this Astros team has had over the last seven years.
Houston has reached the ALCS every year since 2017, and they have two championships to their credit over that span. Getting back to the post-season is becoming an uphill battle, and I don’t expect it to get any easier after they lose this second game of the series with the Cubbies on Hump Day.
Spencer Arrighetti is making his third start in the Major League on Wednesday night, and I don’t see how that would give them any confidence to win this game. Arrighetti has yet to toss more than 4 innings in any of the two starts, and he has picked up the loss on both occasions.
Jameson Taillon is only making his second start of the 2024 campaign, and he looked pretty good in his season debut on April 19. Granted, the Marlins were his first opponent, so that didn’t hurt matters.
Taillon only surrendered 3 total hits and 1 earned run against Miami, and he has the support of a team that has put up 126 runs in 23 games. I love the Cubbies in this spot, and I will gladly take advantage of Houston while they struggle to get anything right this year.

Chicago Cubs News, Injury Report, Schedule: Cubs Enjoying Home Cookin’
Since losing 2 of 3 games against Texas to open the season, the Cubs have only lost one series since then. The Cubs have leaped out to an 8 – 3 record at Wrigley Field this season, and the offense is putting up nearly 5.5 runs per game.
Chicago will wrap up this series with Houston on Thursday, and then they will hit the road for a 7-game trip to the East Coast. The Red Sox will host the Cubs from Friday – Sunday, and then they come to the Big Apple to play four games against the Mets.
Cody Bellinger will be a game-time decision after leaving Tuesday’s game with a rib contusion.
Chicago fans hope that Justin Steele can make it back to the starting rotation in early May after making only one start in 2024.
Houston Astros News, Injury Report, Schedule: Pitching Staff Decimated With Injuries
The Astros are 3 – 8 on the road this season, and I expect loss #9 is coming tonight in Chicago.
Houston has lost 6 of their last 7 games, and they have already been swept three times despite only playing seven different opponents.
After the Stros conclude this series with the Cubs on Thursday, they will have Friday off to travel to Mexico City. Houston will play a 2-game weekend series with the Rockies as part of the MLB International World Tour
The Astros have nine pitchers on the injury list, six of which are starters with three relievers joining them. Not one of them has a timetable to return, so it will not get any easier as the runs allowed stat mounts up.
Cubs vs Astros H2H: Astros With Slight Edge In Series
The Astros hold a 383 – 335 edge in the all-time series with the Cubs.
This series is only the fifth played between the two teams since Houston left the National League in 2012. Houston swept the Cubs in 2023 3 games to love, but the Astros are only 7 – 6 against Chicago since 2013 after losing Tuesday’s game to the Cubs.
