Scott Thornton looks ahead to give you his Euro 2024 Player of the Tournament prediction in this betting preview ahead of the competition in June. Europe’s finest footballers head to Germany this summer for what promises to be an enthralling tournament.

Euro 2024 Player of the Tournament Prediction: Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe is the favourite to be crowned the player of the tournament, and that should come as no surprise. His club future has been the source of much speculation, but it seems inevitable he will finally make the switch to Real Madrid this summer. Wherever he plays his club football, Kylian always seems to turn up for France.
The 25-year-old has already had a glittering international career. He has tasted World Cup success in 2018. Mbappe was unlucky not to make it consecutive triumphs when he scored a hat-trick in the final in Qatar. He looks destined to beat the record goal tally set by Miroslav Klose in World Cups but is yet to get his hands on the European Championship trophy.
Mbappe played exceptionally well in his final season in Paris. He scored 27 goals in 29 matches in Ligue 1. He also found the net eight times as PSG made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League. His developing skillset makes it impossible for the opposition defence to pin him down, and you’d have to say that he looks set to star in Germany.

Jude Bellingham
Jude Bellingham already enjoys hero status at the Santiago Bernabeu. The young midfielder has shown maturity well beyond his years since moving from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid. He is capable of playing in both deeper and more advanced midfield roles and this versatility, coupled with some breathtaking performances for Real make him the second favourite to win Player of the Tournament.
Carlo Ancelotti elected to deploy Jude further up the pitch this season. He has been given the license to venture further up the pitch with Real Madrid playing without a recognised number nine for most of the season. Bellingham’s incredible athleticism helped him score 19 league goals, the third most in the Spanish top flight. It’s unclear where Gareth Southgate will play Jude he will have an impact no matter where.
Bellingham has already racked up 29 caps for his country despite being just 20. This could be a breakout tournament for the youngster. He started all of England’s matches at the World Cup in 2022 and even managed to score in the 6-2 win over Iran. However, this will be his first international tournament as one of the biggest names.

Euro 2024 Player of the Tournament Prediction: Harry Kane
Harry Kane was another England player who was on the move last summer. He made the switch to Bayern Munich in pursuit of the silverware which had eluded him. The striker continued to bang in the goals, but the Bavarian giants failed to capture a trophy. Kane will be hoping he can continue his exceptional form and get his hands on a trophy as the England captain here.
Kane scored 36 goals in 32 games in the Bundesliga this season. The former Tottenham striker also found the net eight times in the Champions League before Bayern Munich were narrowly beaten by Real Madrid. Harry is one of the most clinical forwards in world football. His non-penalty xG of 0.72 per 90 minutes this season means he ranks in the top 3% when compared with all other forwards across Europe’s top five leagues. He managed to outperform this metric by scoring 0.86 non-penalty goals per 90 minutes.
Harry is England’s all-time top scorer, with a total of 62 goals. He found the net four times in Euro 2021. Kane is a strong contender to be the tournament’s top scorer, and that could be enough for him to bag the Player of the Tournament should England win it.

Phil Foden
Phil Foden completes the trio of England players who are just behind Kylian Mbappe in the betting. Foden was declared the Premier League Player of the Season after he celebrated a fourth consecutive league triumph with Manchester City. The youngster has developed under Pep Guardiola has made the jump from squid player to an integral part of the starting eleven.
Foden scored 27 goals for City across all competitions. Only Alexander Isak, Cole Palmer and Erling Haaland scored more goals than the midfielder in the Premier League. He also racked up eight assists in the league and a further four in the Champions League. Phil ranked in the top 20% of midfielders for passes attempted, passes completed and progressive passes so he brings so much more to the team than just his goals.
Several pundits have called for Phil Foden to start as England’s number 10 this summer, with Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham positioned as the deeper midfielders. That setup would give Foden the platform he needs to shine. He has already shown that he is capable of conjuring up some magic in the big moments, and that could be enough to secure him the Player of the Tournament award in Germany.

Euro 2024 Player of the Tournament Prediction: Toni Kroos
Toni Kroos has announced he will retire from football following this summer’s European Championships. He has already won the league with Real Madrid this season and will be looking to claim his sixth Champions League trophy when they take on Borussia Dortmund. Kroos has also won the World Cup with Germany. The Euros is the only trophy that has evaded him, so this is a great chance for him to sign off on a remarkable career on home soil.
Julian Nagelsmann was keen to bring the veteran midfielder back into the international fold. Kroos has the ability to dictate the pace of the game and he will play a key role in unlocking defences for this possession-hungry German side. Toni started in the impressive wins over France and the Netherlands back in March. He played 179 minutes in those games, making 241 passes with 94% accuracy. Those passes led to two assists.
His stats for Real Madrid this season are also brilliant. He ranks in the top 1% of midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues for pass attempts and progressive passes made.

Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer at the peak of his powers, but he can still have an impact on this free-scoring Portugal side. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was left out of Portugal’s quarter-final clash with Morocco at the last World Cup. He will be hoping to put that disappointment behind him and show he still has what it takes to thrive against the best that Europe has to offer.
Portugal have a plethora of talent in their squad and are the fourth favourites to win the trophy as a result. They are no longer reliant on the ever-present Cristiano, who still contributes with a hatful of goals. Ronaldo was the second top scorer in the European Championship Qualifiers, amassing a total of 10 goals. He was the joint-top scorer in Euro 2021 with five goals.
Ronaldo has continued to find the net as he plies his trade in the Saudi Pro League. There are no murmurings of retirement at the age of 39. Cristiano seemingly has his sights set on breaking even more goal-scoring records. He was the top scorer in the league this season, finding the net 35 times in 31 matches.
