Argentina Primera Betting Odds: Outright Winners for Zone A and Zone B

The Argentina Primera is back, and so is Nathan Joyes, but let’s talk you through the new format for 2025 before we dive into the Argentina Primera betting odds and bets. The competition will consist of two tournaments – the Apertura and Clausura – each with five stages.
The 30 teams – including recently promoted Aldosivi and San Martin – have been drawn into two groups – Zone A and Zone B – where there will be a single round-robin format.
Each team will play two inter-zone matches. One will be against its rival from the other zone, and the second will be decided by a draw.
Once complete, the top eight teams from both groups – or zones – will come together for a round of 16 knockout format.
To keep it simple, my first two tips will simply be to determine who will finish top of Zone A and B, rather than to focus on the latter knockout stage of the tournament.
In short, if our selection is top after the 16 matches, we’ll be paid out, no matter what happens in the final stages. Let’s dig in.
Argentina Apertura Zone A Winners Odds: Controversial club the value pick
There’s no surprise to see Boca Juniors at the top of the market at just 3.50 alongside Racing Club at 4.00, but there’s a club that is the talk of the town – and El Pincha could be about to ruffle a few feathers.
For those that don’t follow Argentinian football all that closely, I’m talking about Estudiantes. A name people will know well is Sebastian Veron. The former Manchester United and Inter Milan midfielder is the club’s president, who has formed a somewhat strange relationship with a US billionaire.
Liverpool fans will definitely know Foster Gillett, a former director of the club who was all but driven out of the club back in 2010 after controversially appointed by his Father who bought the club.
And now the American is wheeling and dealing in Argentina, despite not actively working solely with Estudiantes. Stick with me here.
Gillett and Veron have formed a relationship where the former Director at Liverpool is content to purchase players with his money and effectively allow them to be signed by Estudiantes. The club doesn’t technically have the funds, and so Gillett is overseeing the operation.
Eye-Catching Movers
The most eye-catching deal saw Boca Juniors’ Cristian Medina signed for €14.6m; a huge amount of cash for this league. Inter Miami’s Facundo Farias was bought for €4.3m, while LDU Quito’s Lucas Piovi has joined the rollercoaster that is Estudiantes for €2.1m. Forward Lucas Alario has arrived from Internacional on a free, as has Alexis Castro from Uruguayan outfit Nacional.
How successful this will be long term is anyone’s guess, but for now, it has elevated Estudiantes’ profile – and it’ll be a shock if another big name – or two – doesn’t join before the transfer window closes.
And so far, so good for the club, who sit top with seven points after three rounds, which included a 2-0 win over highly-rated Racing Club.
Estudiantes has strength in-depth and clearly players are being convinced to team up with Gillett and the club, for what I’m presuming is to do with higher wages and bonuses.
Boca and Racing will be their two biggest rivals but there’s question marks around both. Boca have spent big, bringing in the likes of Ander Herrera and Alan Velasco – but the former is already out injured. Their squad looks more balanced than last term, but their name is a huge factor for their short price – don’t get drawn in.
Racing have already lost to Estudiantes, but they have also lost Juan Quintero – arguably their most influential player – who has returned to Colombia to finish his career.
Estudiantes are currently priced at 4.50, and they look most likely to pinch first place away from Boca in Zone A.

Argentina Apertura Zone B Winners Odds: River’s rebuild difficult to overlook
Zone B’s puzzle looks a little easier to solve. Like Boca, River Plate have dived into the market and signed no less than seven players.
Three of those are returning to the club as head coach Marcelo Gallardo looks keen to put trust in players who have handled the pressure of playing for River. Gonzalo Montiel, Enzo Perez and Sebastian Driussi have helped – somewhat – “get the band back together”.
Right-back Montiel cost €4.5m, while River paid just shy of €10m to bring back Driussi who has spent the last three years banging in goals for Austin in the MLS, after several years in Russia with Zenit. If the Argentine can find his feet back at El Monumental, Gallardo has a solid striker he can trust, rather than merely relying on hot-and-cold striker Miguel Borja.
Away from Driussi, the most impressive signing may well be Fiorentina’s centre-back Lucas Martinez, who originally left the club in 2020. He’s returned for a cool €7m.
A head-turning move to bring in former Racing winger Matias Rojas looks to be a solid coup, who has left Inter Miami to join River’s new look side.
No Lazy River in sight
But Gallardo has had little to no choice but to start from scratch. River were bitterly disappointing last campaign both domestically and in the Libertadores, and there was no way he came back to the club without a promise of cash in the transfer window. The club has obliged, and now it’s up to their greatest ever manager to turn things around.
Admittedly, it has been a slow start to the season, but River’s brand new defence looks strong – it’s now up to those in the final third to step up and win matches.
River are the favourites to win Zone B at 2.62, but competition is lacking in this group. Independiente have won their first three matches, and their trust in youth is always pleasing to see, but over the entire round robin they are likely to show some inexperience.
Velez, who won the Clausura last campaign, haven’t been able to keep hold of key players and that’s clearly impacted them. Star centre-back Valentin Gomez is on his way out of the club, too.
And while there’s work to be done for River, Zone B is there for the taking, and it will be bitterly disappointing if Gallardo can’t work his magic once more after his solid work in the window.
