´Tyron Woodley vs Leon Edwards Prediction & Betting Tips | UFC Fight Night 171
Date/Time | March 21st, 21.00 |
Venue | The O2 Arena |
Location | London |
Weight Class | Welterweight |
In the main event of UFC Fight Night 171, former UFC welterweight champion looks to get back on the winning track after a devastating defeat to Kamaru Usman. Tyron will square up against Leon Edwards who is on a tear in the welterweight division, currently riding on an 8-fight win streak. Will we see Woodley get his belt back? Or will the new contender manage to defeat the former champion?
Tyron Woodley
Tyron Woodley is a fairly composed fighter. He holds 7 (37%) wins by KO/TKO, 5 (26%) wins by submission and 7 (37%) wins by decision. One of his most impressive performances against Darren Till also showed how well-rounded he is as a mixed martial artist. In that fight, Woodley made easy work of Till, as he knocked him down and submitted him in early stages of the second round, without absorbing any punches whatsoever. Woodley has also shown that he can go toe to toe with one of the best strikers in the UFC, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
Leon Edwards
Leon “Rocky” Edwards is currently on an 8-fight win streak against decent competition in the welterweight division. He’s fought and beat the likes of Gunnar Nelson, Rafael Dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone, and Vicente Luque. Edwards’ last loss came against Kamaru Usman back in December of 2015. Besides that loss, Edwards has lost a narrow split decision as well as a DQ loss due to an illegal knee.
Who wins?
Despite being on a great win streak, Edwards has never faced anyone at the level of Woodley, not counting current champion Kamaru Usman. Stylistically, Edwards also hasn’t faced a well-rounded opponent like Woodley who has heavy hands and great grappling. Woodley’s takedown defense at 92% will also allow him to dictate where the fight takes place, and striking with Woodley is a nightmare for any man. Woodley can win any way he wants: KO, submission or decision, whereas Edwards pretty much only has a shot of beating Woodley by a decision. Also, Tyron has experience against technical fighters Stephen Thompson and Darren Till. Thompson, who holds superior striking stats than Edwards in most categories, was a tough fight for Woodley, but Woodley managed to get the better of “Wonderboy” in their two fights. Edwards is a great contender, but he’s simply no match for “The Chosen One”.
bettingexpert prediction: Tyron Woodley def. Leon Edwards via third-round KO.

- Tyron Woodley To WIn 2.37
- Tyron Woodley By KO/TKO TBA
