Frankie Edgar vs Pedro Munhoz Fight Predictions

It’s tough to call Frankie Edgar’s last few performances spectacular. He is on a two-fight skid and was knocked out in the first round the last time we saw him. Now, he decides to test himself in the bantamweight division.

Back in the day Frankie would’ve gone toe to toe with a guy like Pedro Munhoz, but now, age is becoming a significant factor for him. He is at a point in his career where he is coming to terms with the fact that he doesn’t have the ability to fight for a title anymore, and that can be tough for a fighter.

Pedro Munhoz is a pretty all-round guy, he’s decent everywhere. I think the major factor here is the fact that Frankie will actually be the bigger guy in there, something he hasn’t experienced since fighting Chad Mendes in 2015, and knocking him out in the first round. A lot has happened in five years, however, and I think it’s safe to say Edgar has declined, at least judging from his last few performances.

Munhoz is a game opponent, and I think he can outclass Frankie here with sheer intensity and youth. Munhoz has a five year age advantage here, which I think is pretty significant. I don’t think Frankie will go out easy though, and I don’t expect a finish from Munhoz who would have to either submit Edgar – who has never been submitted in his career – or knock him out, which I simply don’t think he has the ferocity for in this matchup.

Prediction: Pedro Munhoz via unanimous decision.

Now, let’s have a look at some betting tips.

Frankie Edgar vs Pedro Munhoz Betting Tips

Frankie Edgar odds: 2.80 | +180 | 9/5

Implied probability: 35%

Pedro Munhoz odds: 1.45 | -222 | 5/11

Implied probability: 69%

I get that Munhoz should be the favorite here, but 1.45 seems at bit high for my liking. Let’s not forget that Edgar has lost fights to some of the best bantamweights on the planet: Max Holloway, Korean Zombie, Brian Ortega – all of them killers! I’m not sure I agree with the general consensus that Edgar can’t beat Munhoz. I would at least give Edgar a 45% chance of winning this fight, which is why I think he is the valued pick in this fight. At the same time, Munhoz is simply not a guy who gets finished, so Edgar taking this via decision doesn’t sound too crazy to me. At these odds

Betting Tip: Frankie Edgar (>2.80).
