UFC 248 – Mark O. Madsen vs Austin Hubbard prediction
Another great fight on the stacked UFC 248 card, this fight is the second-last bout on the preliminary card. Danish Mark O. Madsen puts his undefeated record on the line against tough contender Austin Hubbard. UFC 248 takes place in the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, on March 8th. This preview includes predictions and betting tips. Who wins and where’s the betting value? Let’s have a look.
Mark O. Madsen
Let’s have a look at Madsen. Danish wrestler Mark “The Olympian” Madsen (9-0) looks to get another win on his record against American Austin Hubbard. Madsen is 1-0 in the UFC, beating Danilo Belluardo from pillar to post on home turf last year in Copenhagen, securing a first-round TKO finish. Madsen has some of the best wrestling credentials the UFC has seen in a long time, winning a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Rio.
Don’t be fooled, Madsen can also strike, as he has a KO victory on his resume.
There’s absolutely no doubt that Madsen will try to get this fight to the ground, as quickly as possible. The Dane has 3 wins each via submission, TKO/KO, and decision. He is 35-years old.
Austin Hubbard
Austin “Thud” Hubbard (11-3) is primarily a striker. In his last fight, he beat Kyle Prepolec via unanimous decision, out striking his opponent by 7 strikes and landing three takedowns.
Hubbard is a give-one-take-one kind of guy, or at least he fights like it. He gets hit quite a lot and was wobbled in his fight with Davi Ramos. More importantly, he was taken down three times by Ramos who isn’t anywhere near the level of wrestler that Madsen is. This is perhaps the most important piece of information that we have, looking to predict this fight.
Who wins?
Currently, Hubbard is a 2.80 underdog. Not great value considering he’s going up against one of the best wrestlers the UFC has ever seen. Odds 1.45 on Madsen are pretty good and he will probably get it done around round 2. Madsen has all the tools to beat an average fighter like Austin Hubbard. We know how wrestlers fare in MMA and judging from Mark’s high level of wrestling, we can imagine that he wins this fight quite easily, inside the distance.
Odds for Madsen to win via TKO at 3.75 aren’t really that great, so we’re going with him to win in round 2 at odds 10.00 instead.
Hubbard might be tough to finish, but with Madsen’s level of wrestling he could get this fight to the ground and possibly submit Austin Hubbard. “Thud” has been submitted once before in his career, by Sean McMurray in 2016. He has also been taken to the ground a few times in his last couple fights, leading us to believe that Madsen will dominate him in this fight. Despite only having once fight, Madsen has already built up tonnes of momentum for him – and was even featured on Greg Hardy’s “top prospects to look out for” video. Hubbard is a tough competitor but based on what we have seen so far from the Dane, Madsen is headed to the top of the division, and Hubbard isn’t going to hand him his first loss.
bettingexpert prediction: Mark O. Madsen def. Austin Hubbard via TKO, round 2.
