UFC 248 – Alex Oliveira vs Max Griffin prediction
The second most known UFC fighter by the name of Cowboy, Alex Oliveira, takes on Max Griffin on the stacked UFC 248 card, which goes down Sunday the 8th of March in the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. Who wins this one? Let’s have a look.
Alex Oliveira
Alex Oliveira (19-8) is somewhat of a UFC veteran, despite being “only” 32-years of age. He has had 16 fights in the UFC and has a record of 9-6-1 in those fights. Oliveira is currently on a three-fight losing streak, coming up short against Gunnar Nelson, Mike Perry, and Nicolas Dalby.
Oliveira is a wild striker who throws anything he can to finish a fight – hence 12 of his wins coming by KO/TKO. He also has some grappling skills to show for, if he decides to shoot or take the fight to the ground. He has four submission wins on his record and most recently won via submission against Carlos Condit in April of 2018.
Oliveira lands 2.90 significant strikes per minute and absorbs 2.25, on average. He has a striking accuracy of 50% and a defense of 46%. He holds a takedown average of 2.86, a takedown accuracy of 39%, defense of 61% and a submission average of 0.7.
Alex Oliveira will possibly fight with a sense of urgency unlike any other in this fight as he is coming off a three-fight losing streak. A fourth consecutive loss in the UFC usually means being cut from the promotion.
Max Griffin
Max Griffin (15-7) is also coming off a loss. “Pain” is 3-5 in the UFC and has been finished twice.
Griffin has 7 wins coming by way of TKO/KO, 2 by submission and 6 by decision. He’s been finished once, by top contender Colby Covington, and has lost 6 decisions.
Apart from Griffin’s not so appealing UFC record, we actually dig his chances against Alex Oliveira, considering he is the underdog in this bout. Griffin has great head movement complemented by his overall movement and is fairly well rounded. Griffin also hits quite hard and displayed his skills against Mike Perry when they fought, beating Platinum by unanimous decision in 2018.
Who wins?
As always, we take a little thing called betting value into consideration when predicting fights. Oliveira is 0-3 in his last three bouts and Griffin is a guy with the movement and hands that can give Oliveira problems. Oliveira likes to drop his hands when he kicks and tends to fade in the later rounds. Cowboy also has taken quite a bit of damage in his last fights, absorbing +110 strikes in his last three fights and losing them all. Griffin lands more and has a better striking defense than Oliveira. Griffin has also landed 9 takedowns in his last four performances against decent competition. He might not have the most padded record, but he always tries the right things and has the skills to beat Alex. Priced at around 2.25 with bookmakers, we like Griffin. However, this fight will probably go the distance if Griffin wins. Odds for Griffin to win via KO/TKO or DQ is 5.50 which is pretty great if you ask us! Oliveira has been finished before by Yancy Medeiros and he’s nearing the end of his career.
Oliveira was taken down and dominated in his last fight against the striker, Nicolas Dalby.
bettingexpert prediction: Max Griffin def. Alex Oliveira via unanimous decision.
