Timothy Weah’s sending-off in the opening 15 minutes of the USA’s last game against Panama has really put the cat amongst the pigeons. The USMNT will be grateful that they remain above Panama thanks to the Copa America using goal difference as opposed to head-to-head as a tie-breaker but there is work to be done. They are the favourites for this clash but they take on a Uruguay side that are currently second in the South American World Cup qualifiers.
Uruguay, on the other hand, earned an emphatic 5-0 win over Bolivia in their last game. The wide margin of victory means that top spot is virtually guaranteed but they will want to put in another strong display against the hosts.
Marcelo Bielsa has previously taken Argentina to the final of the Copa America back in 2004. His reputation has continued to grow since then and his tenure with Uruguay has been fruitful thus far. He has suffered just two defeats in 12 matches since taking over the team. Uruguay have scored an average of 2.25 goals and conceded just 0.75 per game over that period.

USA vs Uruguay Prediction 2: A Triumph For Attacking Football
Marcelo Bielsa’s unwavering footballing principles have earned him plaudits across the globe. Pep Guardiola has spoken of his admiration of the former Leeds boss and it’s easy to see why given how Uruguay have been playing. They love pressing the opposition high up the pitch and the 36 tackles they made against Bolivia illustrates that. However, this risky approach can leave them vulnerable to the long ball so we are backing both teams to score here.
Uruguay have played seven competitive matches under Bielsa. They have scored in every single one and averaged 2.29 goals per game in the process.
The United States have failed to score in just one of their 13 matches under Gregg Berhalter. They have scored an average of 1.85 goals during that time and have faced some stern tests. The USA have found the net against the likes of Brazil, Germany and Colombia but they are still awaiting their first victory against a side ranked in the top 20 of the FIFA World Rankings under Berhalter.

USA vs Uruguay Prediction 3: Nunez Enjoying a Purple Patch
Darwin Nunez blew hot and cold for Liverpool last season. He was seemingly unplayable at times but the wastefulness in front of goal that had plagued his game in his first season at Liverpool crept in at times. Nevertheless, he still managed to score 11 goals and assist a further eight in the Premier League last season.
Nunez scored a hat-trick against Mexico in Uruguay’s final warm-up match for the Copa America and he has found the net in both of their group games so far. He finished the Bolivia clash with an xG of 0.7 but Opta credited it him with missing two solid opportunities to score. He also missed a couple of golden chances in the team’s opener against Panama. Darwin is a contender to be the top scorer at the tournament and will be hoping to add to his tally here.
The Liverpool striker’s combination of strength and speed makes him deadly in Bielsa’s high press. He has the ability to stretch a defence with runs off the ball and has become the main man for a national team with rich history of elite number nines.

USA vs Uruguay Possible Lineups: Turner Looks Set to be Sidelines
The USA squad is littered with players plying their trade in one of Europe’s top five leagues but they will be without a couple of key players here. Timothy Weah’s sending-off means he is suspended for this one. Matt Turner also picked up an injury in that game and is unlikely to feature here.
Uruguay will be delighted with performances so far. They can afford to rest some players here but Marcelo Bielsa could opt to name a full-strength team and ride the momentum into the knockout stages.
