Spurs vs Southampton Prediction: Team News and Lineups Preview
We have Spurs vs Southampton on Sunday afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Ange’s side are overwhelming favourites. It’s been a disappointing campaign thus far, but you’d expect a routine three points for the home side.
Playing for pride is all they have now. I mean, what can we say about Southampton? Simply not good enough. They’ll take positives from their draw with Palace midweek, where they leapt into the double-digit points tally. Ivan Juric’s side are big underdogs heading to the capital, nothing unusual.
Spurs vs Southampton Prediction
England, Premier League, Sunday, April 6th, 14:00 (UK)
Many had high hopes for Spurs at the beginning of the campaign. Ange’s attractive style of play and their attack-minded side looked like a perfect match. Injuries have hit them hard. The club had upwards of ten first-team players out, which didn’t do them any favours. The London side boast a 10-4-15 (W-D-L) record after 29 Premier League matches and see themselves languish in the dizzy heights of 14th.
It could get worse and a lot worse. Poor Southampton. The Premier League is unforgiving at times. Russell Martin had his style, which he refused to give up, that ultimately backfired and eventually saw him lose his job. Southampton caused their own issues countless times by playing out from the back like prime Barcelona. It looked fabulous if done successfully, but the execution led to catastrophe time after time.
Seeing Spurs as 1.36 favourites is understandable, given they’re up against the worst side in the division. The -1.5 Asian Handicap is perhaps fair. Spurs smashed Southampton 5-0 in the reverse fixture, with every goal arriving within 45 minutes. I’m not sure Spurs can contain the bottom side. They’ve managed just two clean sheets here all term. Juric’s men have scored in eight of their previous ten. Saints are doomed but should fancy their chances to get on the scoresheet.
The home side boasts a -0.04xGD/90 when playing at home. It’s a statistic only worsened by the current bottom five. Ange’s men have shipped the second-highest xGA with 27.0 across 15 matches. They allow opponents chances. Southampton’s 1-2-12 (W-D-L) away record is dismal. They’ve created 12.0xG and allowed 31.4xGA. Ivan Juric has taken charge of 13 Premier League matches for Southampton and has yet to see his side keep a clean sheet.
Unfortunately, BTTS is priced a little short at 1.62 for a single selection. It’s tough seeing Tottenham not win this encounter. We can combine the two selections, providing an appealing proposition. The 1.36 home win is boosted into a 2.50-priced selection.
Son, Solanke, Johnson and Maddison are expected to play, and potentially Dejan Kulusevski. The home side isn’t short in attack. Spurs face Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night in the Europa League. It’s a competition they’ll be fighting to win. One eye could be on that vital clash, benefitting the visitors.
Paul Onuachu is the biggest threat, literally. The Saints will use his towering frame to their advantage. Paul scored with his head against Palace on Wednesday night. Three of his four shots were via his head.

Spurs vs Southampton Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups Prediction: Little Excuses From Squad Perspectives
Ange Postecoglou will not have Radu Dragusin. The Romanian central defender is out until October after suffering a Cruciate ligament injury against Elfsborg.
Kevin Danso, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison are doubtful. Spurs play Chelsea on Thursday night and will hope for an injury-free encounter.
Flynn Downes will not play after picking up another yellow card in midweek. Will Smallbone isn’t going to feature due to a groin injury. Paul Onuachu has scored in consecutive Premier League matches. The forward is a handful, given his height. He’ll be looking to cause Spurs’ defence problems.
Spurs possible starting lineup:
Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence, Bergvall, Bentancur, Maddison, Johnson, Son, Solanke
Southampton possible starting lineup:
Ramsdale; Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Stephens, Walker-Peters, Aribo, Ugochukwu, Manning, Fernandes, Sulemana, Onuachu
