Romania hasn’t lost a single game during the qualifiers. They actually went 12 games undefeated before losing to Colombia by 3:2 in a friendly match. Their most recent friendly game played versus Bulgaria ended in a 0:0 draw.

Key Players

It is hard to say who the best player in the team is as Romania garners a team approach without many stars. Most of the players in their roster either play in Italy or the domestic Romanian league.

Player Profiles

Romania’s captain and one of their star players is Nicolae Stanciu. He may have left Europe and played in various Asian leagues, but he has never lost his touch for scoring goals when it comes to the national side. He led Romania with three goals in the qualifiers.

Alongside him, an important piece in the defence is Radu Drăgușin. Romania has a very sturdy defence and at the very top of it is the newest Spurs man. Before transferring to the Premier League, he was one of the best defenders of Serie A and promises to be a rock in the defence of the Romania Euro 2024 squad.

Euro 2024 Schedule

Romania’s will be starting the competition with a very interesting matchup against Ukraine in Group E.

Latest News

Many say that the Euro 2024 Romania team does not come as nearly close as the golden generation from the 90s. Yet, most of them also believe that they have the capacity to overshadow that generation. With a fairly easier group, they have a chance to qualify for the next stage, after that anyone can win in a one-game battle.

Tactical Analysis

Edward Iordănescu is a coach who helped Romania get back to the Euros. After missing out on the previous European Championship, the Tricolorii are right there where they need to be. To achieve that, he created a very sturdy team with defence being the main factor. The Romanian team has conceded only five goals during the qualifiers, allowing them to create offence by protecting their goal first and thriving from there.

Playing Style and Formation

With a defensive mindset, you will often see Romania play in a 4-5-1 formation, which they utilised against Switzerland. However, they are no strangers in disposing of an offensive 4-2-3-1 system as well. Depending on the matchup, Iordănescu is probably going to switch between the two.

Team History

Football fanatics probably remember the Romanian team that reigned supreme during the 90s. Gheorghe Hagi was the leader of the team with Dorinel Munteanu and Gheorghe Popescu. After those players retired, Romania was not able to get back to its glory days, but with this team, good times are ahead.

Overview

Romania has played at five Euros so far, with the 2024 Euro being their sixth overall entry. At the same time, they participated in seven World Cups so far. Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to qualify since 1998.

Achievements and Honors

It seems that recently, Romania was able to get to the European Championship much easier than the World Cup. They haven’t had much success at either of them, with the quarterfinals of the 1994 World Cup being the highlight.

European Championship success:

  • Quarterfinals in 2000

World Cup success:

  • Quarterfinals in 1994
