Sevilla v Inter Prediction
Sevilla came from behind to beat Manchester United in the semi-finals and continue their impressive run of form. That win was their eighth in nine games in all competitions and they haven’t lost for 20 matches. Inter’s standout 5-0 win over Shakhtar in the semis saw their own string of results carry on. That’s six straight wins for Conte’s men and just one defeat in their last 17.
Sevilla v Inter Recent Matchups
Surprisingly, this is actually the first time these two clubs have ever met. It’s a strange stat considering they’ve both been amongst the European elite for decades but they’ve never played in a UEFA match. Sevilla have already beaten Italian opposition in the Europa League this season after seeing off Roma in the round-of-16. Coincidentally, Inter beat Spanish opposition in their last-16 tie with a 2-0 win over Getafe.
Sevilla v Inter Stats & Analysis
It’s two of the most successful sides in the competition’s history facing off in the final. Sevilla, of course, have won the Europa League more than any other club with five titles to their name. They’ve never lost a Europa League final but they’re playing in their first since 2016. It’s hardly a novelty to have a Spanish side in the final of this competition. Nine of the last 16 finals have featured a club from La Liga and the only times they have lost the showpiece match have been when they’ve come up against another Spanish side.
If the 2010s were the decade of Spanish dominance in this competition then the 1990s were all about Italy. An incredible 14 of the 22 finalists between 1989 and 1999 were from Serie A. Inter haven’t got to this stage of this competition since 1998 but neither has any other Italian club in the 21st century.
So it promises to be a history-making match for one of these teams but just don’t expect too many goals. Inter may have put five past Shakhtar in the semi-final but that was out of the ordinary for them. The Italian side has an average of 3 total match goals per match in the Europa League but that goes down to 2.5 excluding the semi. Sevilla’s figures are even lower at 2.27 total average match goals this campaign. It may not be the classic match that many neutrals will be hoping for.
Sevilla v Inter Bets
But despite the recent Spanish dominance in this competition, Inter are the slight favourites according to the bookmakers. Antonio Conte’s men are 5/4 to secure the win their first Europa League title in over two decades. Sevilla are out at 13/5 for their record sixth title. A draw is available at the same price of 13/5 so the bookies clearly think that this match could go either way.
But as previously mentioned, just don’t expect too many goals. Sevilla’s average total match goals of 2.27 is amongst the lowest of any of the clubs that made it out of the group stages this campaign. Inter’s would be towards the bottom as well but for that stat-padding semi-final win over Shakhtar. Under 2.5 goals in the match is unsurprisingly low at 10/11 but under 1.5 may be tempting at 5/2.
Inter have been strong starters in the Europa League this season. They’ve led at halftime in four of their five matches in the competition and conceded just two goals in that time. Inter to lead at the break is 2/1 which is a good return.
Both of these sides have excellent defensive records. Sevilla have kept clean sheets in 64% of their matches and Inter have done the same in 60%. Both teams have scored in just four of the last 10 Europa League finals and you’ll get odds of 11/10 for the same thing to happen in Germany this Friday. Failing that, Inter and Sevilla are 3/1 and 5/1 respectively to win to nil if you want to extend those match outcome odds.
