Finland vs England Prediction: Team News and Lineups Preview
Here at Bettingexpert, we have a prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview ahead of the match between Finland vs England. The visitors are expected to win relatively comfortably.
Finland struggled when they faced England at Wembley last month. The gulf in class between the two nations was obvious. Lee Carsley’s men were humiliated by Greece on Thursday night.
Can England return to winning ways in Helsinki, or will Finland pile more misery on the Three Lions?
- Finland vs England Tip 1: England & Under 3.5 Goals

- Finland vs England Tip 3: Under 9.5 Corners
Finland vs England Prediction 1: A Professional Display
Europe, UEFA Nations League, Sunday, October 13th, 17:00 (UK)
Greece beat Lee Carsley’s England at Wembley on Thursday night. Vangelis Pavlidis scored a brace in a well-deserved victory. England must bounce back in Helsinki against Finland. Once again, the Three Lions are overwhelming favourites.
The starting XI against Greece was attacking. Bellingham, Palmer, Saka, Gordon and Foden were involved from the first whistle. The attack was disjointed and lacked rhythm. The defence was just as bad, perhaps worse. Not a single player looked interested. Greece’s winning goal came from a comedy of errors. There’s not much time to dwell on that performance, with a clash against Finland right around the corner.
With the talent within the squad, you’d be brave backing against England despite what we’ve just seen. Carsley’s men must defeat Finland. I expect a much better response in a professional performance. England is 1.33 to win this encounter. Adding under 3.5 goals boosts this price to a 2.05 selection. England rarely blows teams away, and with that defeat in their minds, England will play conservatively.
This selection won when they met at Wembley last month. Finland managed just two shots that night and failed to hit the target.
- Finland vs England Prediction 1: England & Under 3.5 Goals (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.05
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 2/10
Finland vs England Prediction 2: Palmer’s Magic
Cole Palmer registered three shots in England’s defeat to Greece. The Chelsea player is talented, and I expect him to play a part in the match with Finland. Palmer has scored six times in seven Premier League matches for his club. He’s bang-on form and is always keen to impress. I’m happy to back him to score, given the offer price.
Gareth Southgate didn’t start Palmer once at Euro 2024. The attacker played just 150 minutes in total in Germany. His goal in the final against Spain was brilliant. It shows just what the player is about. Only Erling Haaland has scored more goals than the Chelsea man this season. He’s a threat to any side.
Palmer is as short as 2.00 to score in Helsinki on Sunday. The best price available is 3.10, a considerable difference. I’m more than happy to get onside with that. England is priced at 1.44 to score twice, and three or more is at 2.37. I’m hopeful that Cole plays a considerable amount in the Finnish capital. With his exceptional form, Cole may only need one chance to get on the scoresheet.
- Finland vs England Prediction 2: Cole Palmer AGS (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 3.10
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 2/10
Finland vs England Prediction 3: Slow & Steady
I’m always a little reluctant when backing corners in any football match. International clashes are often slower and have less action than a club game. I’m not expecting the upcoming clash to be a full-throttle fixture. Finland will respect their opponents, knowing just how good they are. England won’t want another slip-up. They’ll look to dominate proceedings from the get-go.
England’s clash with Finland at Wembley saw ten corners. Amazingly, all of those arrived inside the opening 45 minutes. Carsley’s men accumulated 79% possession that night. I’m not sure they’ll
achieve that figure on Sunday. If they do, the corner figure could be relatively low. Finland will be compact and tricky to break down.
Bukayo Saka is a doubt. I’m not expecting the Arsenal man to play. Saka is a tremendous player and a threat to any side on the right wing. The 23-year-old is a constant threat and can win corners at will. Knowing his likely absence makes the under-market an appealing option.
England’s previous away day saw just five corners. Six of their seven encounters at Euro 2024 had less than ten corner kicks.
- Finland vs England Prediction 3: Under 9.5 Corners (TRACKED BET)

- Stake: 2/10

Finland vs England Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups: Visitors Missing Key Names
There appear to be no injury concerns from the Finland camp. Joel Pohjanpalo and Teemu Pukki are the players England must look out for. The former found the back of the net against Ireland on Thursday night.
Bukayo Saka is doubtful. He was substituted in England’s defeat against Greece. Harry Kane is suffering from a hip injury whilst Jack Grealish has a knock.
Finland possible starting lineup:
Hradecky; Stahl, Hoskonen, Ivanov, Galvez, Kamara, Schuller, Walta, Lod, Pohjanpalo, Keskinen
England possible starting lineup:
Pickford; TAA, Stones, Colwill, Lewis, Rice, Bellingham, Palmer, Madueke, Foden, Watkins
