Colombia topped Group D ahead of Brazil having amassed a total of seven points. They’ve avoided a tricky clash with Uruguay as a result. Panama emerged through the groups at the expense of the USA. The tiny nation managed to beat the hosts 2-1.

Our Colombia vs Panama Prediction is: Colombia to win 3-0.

Colombia vs Panama Prediction 1: Lorenzo’s Men to Extend Their Impressive Run

South America, Copa America 2024, Saturday, July, 23:00 (UK)

Colombia are the form team in South America. The 1-1 draw against Brazil extended their unbeaten run to a whopping 26 matches. Nestor Lorenzo has been in charge for 23 of those matches. The fearsome form means they are amongst the leading contenders to win the Copa America and they should lay down a marker here.

The Colombians have scored an average of 1.91 goals per game under Lorenzo. They have beaten the likes of Spain, who are currently second favourites to win the European Championships, and five-time World Cup winners Brazil. They had won their 0 matches prior to the 1-1 draw with Dorival’s side in the final group game. Los Cafeteros were the better side in that one but an exceptional goal from Raphinha pegged them back. Colombia will be expecting a comfortable win when they take on Panama.

Panama’s qualification to the knockout stages was aided by a sending-off for Tim Weah early on in their clash with the hosts. They have done well to reach this stage but this looks a step too far. They have conceded an average of 3.2 goals in their last five matches where they have been priced at odds of 10.00 or greater on the 1×2 market and bet365 currently have them at odds of 12.00 to beat Colombia.

  • Colombia vs Panama Prediction 1: Colombia -1.5 Asian Handicap (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.00
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Colombia vs Panama Prediction 2: Panama in the Firing Line

Panama are the underdog and are expected to be under the cosh for large periods of this game. They are adept in possession but they will have a difficult time navigating their way through Colombia’s aggressive press. They had similar issues when facing quality opposition in the group stages.

Thomas Christiansen’s side have already faced one of the other contenders to lift the trophy in the form of Uruguay. La Celeste has a total of 20 shots as they ran out 3-1 victors. In fact, the Panama national team have conceded 20 shots or more in their two matches where they have been priced at off of 10.00 or greater since the start of 2023.

Colombia managed to have 13 attempts in their last game against Brazil. They finished the game with an xG of 1.45 and should have beaten the side that remains just behind Argentina in the outright betting for this tournament. Nestor Lorenzo played one group match where they were priced at odds of 1.50 to win. They managed 17 shots in that encounter with Costa Rica and they should have plenty of attempts here.

  • Colombia vs Panama Prediction 2: Over 16.5 Shots For Colombia (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.72
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Colombia vs Panama Prediction 3: Rodriguez Continues to Shine

James Rodriguez and Luis Diaz are integral to the Colombia team and both have been firing since the start of the Copa America. Nestor Lorenzo’s setup promotes individualism and these two players certainly benefit from that. As a result, we are backing Rodriguez to assist a goal here.

Colombia’s willingness to press high up the pitch means the midfielder who took the 2014 World Cup by storm is receiving the ball in dangerous areas. James Rodriguez has registered three assists in the Copa America so far, more than any other player. The 1-1 draw with Brazil was the first game of the tournament in which he didn’t register an assist but he finished the game with an xGA (expected Goal Assists) of 0.30.

His days at Real Madrid may be long behind him but Rodriguez remains a creative force at club level. His average of 70.93 passes attempted and 99.37 progressive passes means he ranks in the top 1% when compared with midfielders and wingers across the Brazilian Serie A and Argentine Primera Division.

  • Colombia vs Panama Prediction 3: James Rodriguez To Assist A Goal
  • Best Odds: 3.00
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 6/10

Colombia vs Panama Possible Lineups: Lerma’s Suspension Means a Change in Midfield

There are no injury worries for Colombia coming into this quarter-final clash. Their star players are in fine fettle and will be relishing the chance to add to their tallies against Panama. However, Jefferson Lerma will miss this game after picking up his second yellow card of the tournament against Brazil. Kevin Castano could replace him in the heart of the Colombian midfield.

Jose Fajardo netted two goals for Panama in the group stages but he came off with a shoulder injury against Bolivia. He faces a battle to prove his fitness ahead of this one but he should get the nod.

Colombia possible starting lineup:
Vargas; Sanchez, Cuesta, Mojica; Rios, Catano, Arias; Rodriguez, Diaz, Cordoba

Panama possible starting lineup:
Mosquera; Murillo, Farina, Cordoba, Harvey, Davis; Blackman, Martinez, Welch, Barcenas

Copa America 2024 Match Stats: Colombia Proving Unstoppable
