Venezuela vs Canada Prediction 1: Proving the masses wrong
USA, Copa America, Saturday July 6th, 02:00 (UK)
Fernando Batista has done a wonderful job since taking over and not only has he put Venezuela in a strong position to reach their first ever World Cup finals, but they have proved everyone wrong at Copa America.
For the first time in their history, La Vinotinto won all of their group matches to top arguably the toughest looking one on paper, when the talk was all about Ecuador and Mexico.
Venezuela came from behind to win against Ecuador, their first time in 166 attempts away from home soil they’ve achieved that. They led against Mexico and held on well, before having plenty of fun with a 3-0 win against Jamaica.
The South American nation is firmly on the rise, and with quick players in attacking positions, their high press has served them well. Better still, they have scored from either working the ball into the box or pinpoint crosses – they are far from a one trick pony.
CONCACAF nations have failed to impress. Canada are perhaps only here as both of their matches vs Peru and Chile saw them finish with ten men.
Once again, the market has missed Venezuela and the Asian Handicap line is too good to be true.
- Venezuela vs Canada Prediction 1: Venezuela 0.0 Asian Handicap (TRACKED BET)

Venezuela vs Canada Prediction 2: Rondon to reel in a third
No one’s laughing at my 150/1 top goalscorer punt now, are they? The most in-form striker heading into Copa America has scored two goals in a group where Venezuela were the only team coming into it without any complications – who knew they’d do well?
The fact they have finished top has meant they have bypassed Argentina until at least the semi-finals, which gives Salomon Rondon another opportunity to score for his beloved nation.
A third goal “could” be enough to squeeze into the top three. A fourth and you’ve almost locked in a generous each-way pay out.
Rondon stepped up to slot home from the penalty spot against Mexico, but showed he’s much more than that against Jamaica. His bullish run and cool finish against Jamaica proved there’s still life in the 34-year-old yet, and their captain picked up three straight man of the match awards for his country.
This is another game where the former River Plate forward will be relishing to play in, and he should once again have the measure of the centre-backs. Venezuela don’t rely on him, but Rondon is still very much a key part of this team.
- Venezuela vs Canada Prediction 2: Salomon Rondon anytime goalscorer
- Best Odds: 3.0
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 6/10
Venezuela vs Canada Prediction 3: Banker bet
With Venezuela going from strength to strength, while Canada progressed from a “weak” group (minus Argentina), I will be shocked if the South American nation loses within 90 minutes.
La Vinotinto’s fans are likely to be there in numbers for one of their biggest games in their history, with a real possibility of securing a semi-final spot.
Even when falling a goal behind, Venezuela have been able to adapt, with Batista not afraid to change his formation or players in order to get back in the game.
We witnessed that against Ecuador but also Mexico, in order to allow his attacking players more time on the ball in the final third.
Canada haven’t been tested since their opening defeat to Argentina, and they haven’t looked like a nation capable of scoring more than once in a match – especially against CONMEBOL opposition.
Venezuela should progress, and do so with a professional performance against an overachieving Canadian side.
- Venezuela vs Canada Prediction 3: Venezuela double chance and under 3.5 goals
- Best Odds: 1.70
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 8/10
