The CONMEBOL South America World Cup qualifiers reach round nine and South American expert Nathan Joyes puts forward his Brazil vs Peru prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.

After three tracked winners from three last week, Nathan is putting his faith back in Brazil to make it two wins from two for the first time during the qualifiers.

Luiz Henrique’s last gasp strike in Santiago saved their blushes, but the Selecao’s job should be easier back on home soil against bottom placed Peru.

  • Brazil vs Peru Tip 1: Brazil and under 3.5 goals
  • Brazil vs Peru Tip 2: Brazil and BTTS No
  • Brazil vs Peru Tip 3: Igor Jesus to score anytime

Brazil vs Peru Prediction 1: Passive Play

Brazil, World Cup Qualifiers, Wednesday, October 16th, 01:45 (UK)

Brazil used their get out of jail card in Santiago to claim a much needed victory over Chile to leapfrog Bolivia and Ecuador into fourth spot – not a sentence many would have thought they would be reading at the start of these qualifiers.

Now back at home, Dorival Junior has the opportunity to record back-to-back victories for the first time since taking over. Fortunately for him, Brazil face Peru, the nation propping up the table without a single goal on their travels to date.

There’s no getting away from the fact Brazil have been incredibly poor, and the World Cup in two years time currently looks a real concern for the Selecao, but this match offers them a chance to secure three key points and potentially keep them in the top four.

Peru has been dreadful. Their golden era is over, yet they’ve not been able to find adequate replacements.

They may have beaten a depleted, fragile Uruguay last time out – recording their first win during the qualifiers – but with forward Gianluca Lapadula out injured, it’s difficult to know where their goals are going to come from.

  • Brazil vs Peru Prediction 1: Brazil and under 3.5 goals
  • Best Odds: 1.83

  • Stake: 7/10

Brazil vs Peru Prediction 2: A rare clean sheet

After nine matches, Brazil have managed to keep just one clean sheet during the qualifiers, which is why this selection may raise eyebrows. However, that came in a recent 1-0 victory against Ecuador at home, where the hosts stifled any chances La Tri attempted to create.

Peru have lost three of their four matches on their travels, the other was a 0-0 draw against Paraguay. In short, they haven’t scored and have conceded five goals in the process.

Two of their three goals scored have come from headers, but up against a centre-back pairing of Arsenal’s Gabriel and PSG’s Marquinhos, those two should be able to deal with any crosses into the box.

It looks as though many have grown tired of captain and right-back Danilo, and the weak link in the defence is reportedly set to be dropped for this fixture. With Andre and Gerson sitting in front of an experienced defence, Brazil can not only pick up the six points they craved, but they can keep Peru out and claim a second clean sheet.

  • Brazil vs Peru Prediction 2: Brazil and BTTS No

Brazil vs Peru Prediction 3: New striker to score again

The debate on who should lead the line for Brazil has been going on for years now but there’s yet another new kid on the block.

Botafogo’s 23-year-old Igor Jesus returned to Brazil after four seasons in UAE with Al-Ahli Dubai and has excelled as his team sit in first place in the Serie A title race. His contribution saw Dorival Junior not only call him up, but start him against Chile.

The young forward excelled, and scored a superb glancing header to draw Brazil level in Santiago. His ability in and around the box, as well as his calmness inside the 18-year area, is why he’s been recognised by not only Brazil, but admirers in Europe.

Although Endrick is the talk of the town after his move to Real Madrid, his current limited minutes is allowing Jesus a unique opportunity, and if he starts again, he has a fantastic opportunity to impress once more.

Peru’s defence hasn’t been great to say the least, and if Jesus can find pockets of space, his stock could go up once more with a second goal in as many matches.

  • Brazil vs Peru Prediction 3: Igor Jesus to score anytime
  • Best Odds: 2.30
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10
