Tottenham vs Bournemouth Prediction - Premier League Fixtures

Matthew O’Regan has his Tottenham vs Bournemouth prediction preview, with the Cherries travelling to North London in the first televised game on Sunday. The sides last met in December, with Bournemouth winning 1-0, despite racking up 3.71 xG against a feeble Spurs side. While Spurs have nothing to play for in the rest of the season, Bournemouth are on the brink of a historic season as they chase European football for the first time in their history.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Bournemouth Prediction: Goal-Line Too High

England, Premier League, Sunday, March 6th, 14:00 UK)

Much has been made of Tottenham’s disastrous season, currently sat in 13th. Injuries have decimated their first team and highlighted gaping holes in their squad depth. With three goalies used in the absence of Guglielmo Vicario and makeshift centre backs used in the absence of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, Tottenham games have tended to descend into chaos. However, the signing of Kevin Danso at centre back and the return of Vicario has seen calmer games in recent weeks. Spurs games have averaged 3.4 goals but 15/27 (56%) have gone under 3.5, including six of their last eight in all competitions.

Tottenham played AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday, so Ange Postecoglu’s stretched squad may be fatigued coming into this game, meaning a lower-intensity match between two high-pressing sides.

Bournemouth have been one of the stories of the season. The Cherries sit seventh in the Premier League and are in the quarter finals of the FA Cup, as they chase European qualification and a major trophy for the first time in their 126 year history.

Andoni Iraola has built an exciting, high-tempo side capable of beating any team in the league – shown by victories against Newcastle (1-4), Nottingham Forest (5-0), Manchester United (0-3), Tottenham (1-0), Manchester City (2-1) and Arsenal (2-0). The South Coast side are three points off Champions League football and will be looking to get their season back on track after back to back losses against Wolves and Brighton.

Iraola’s side have been strong defensively – only Liverpool and Arsenal have conceded fewer goals than their 32. Their games are averaging 2.85 goals, with 18/27 (67%) seeing under 3.5 goals, including five of their last six games in all competitions.

Both Tottenham and Bournemouth are amongst the league entertainers, capable of being involved in relentless attacking shoot-outs. However, given the recent exploits of both teams (Bournemouth going to penalties and Tottenham playing in midweek), fatigue could be a factor for two injury-riddled teams. Given that under 3.5 goals has landed more often than not for both teams in the league, I’m willing to go against the grain and side with the unders.

Tottenham vs Bournemouth Team News: Injury Issues for both

Tottenham’s injury issues have been well documented. Centre back duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven remain out, while back-up centre halves Ben Davies and Radu Dragusin  are also out. In attack, Richarlison and Dominic Solanke are set to miss the game.

Ryan Christie limped off in the defeat to Brighton so is expected to be absent again. He joins Adam Smith, Enes Ünal, Julian Araujo  and Marcos Sensei on the injury list. Illia Zabaryni is still suspended after his straight red against Wolves, meaning right back James Hill is likely to fill the void, meaning Lewis Cook will slot in at right back again. The returns of Evanilson and Luis Sinisterra in recent weeks are a huge boost to Iraola, with Evanilson expected to lead the line on Sunday.

Team A possible starting lineup:
Vicario; Porro, Danso, Gray, Spence; Bergvall, Bentancur, Maddison; Kulusevski, Son, Johnson

Bournemouth possible starting lineup:
Kepa; Cook, Huijsen, Hlil, Kerkez; Adams, Scott; Semenyo, Kluivert, Ouattara; Evanlison
