Mönchengladbach vs Freiburg Prediction
Scott Thornton brings you his Mönchengladbach vs Freiburg prediction preview ahead of this intriguing clash in the Bundesliga.
Mönchengladbach are in resurgent form. They have lost just one of their last five, which has moved them up to 6th in the table. Gerardo Seoane’s side are just two points off the Champions League places so they’ll be hoping for a strong finish to the campaign.
Freiburg, on the other hand, have struggled of late. They are enduring a run of five matches without a win and have dropped to 7th in the league.
Mönchengladbach vs Freiburg Prediction: Schuster’s Men Can’t Arrest the Slump
Germany, Bundesliga, Saturday, April 12th, 14:30 (UK)
Mönchengladbach come into this game full of confidence. They were impressive in their last home game as they beat RB Leipzig 1-0. Seoane’s men were able to create an abundance of chances and finished the game with 0.55 more xG than their opponents. Die Fohlen’s away draw with St. Pauli was less than satisfactory but they can bounce back in front of their own fans.
Gerardo Seoane’s team have played well in front of their own fans for the majority of the campaign. They have lost just three of their last 12 home games in the Bundesliga. Two of those defeats came against teams who are currently in the top four. Over the course of that 12-match run, Mönchengladbach have scored an average of 1.75 goals per game and conceded 1.08.
Mönchengladbach owe much of their success to Tim Kleindienst and Alassane Plea. Both have been tremendously effective in front of goal and are set to feature here. Only Harry Kane and Patrick Schick have netted more Bundesliga goals than Kleindienst’s 15. Tim has an xG of 14.8, so he has been able to perform just as the underlying data suggests he should. Kleindienst played for Freiburg between 2016 and 2019. He will be keen to get on the scoresheet against his former club, just as he did in the reverse fixture. Plea has chipped in with 10 league goals from an xG of just 6.38.

Freiburg’s defensive record leaves a lot to be desired. They have conceded an average of 1.57 goals per game, the sixth-most in the Bundesliga. This rises to 1.79 goals per game if we only include the data for their away matches, which doesn’t bode well ahead of the trip to Mönchengladbach.
Julian Schuster’s side have also had their woes in front goal. Their five-match winless run in the Bundesliga has seen them net an average of 0.88 goals per game. Only Wolfsburg have scored fewer goals over that period.
With Freiburg struggling at both ends of the pitch, we are backing Mönchengladbach -0.25 on the Asian handicap here. This gives the added security of half of our stake back should the game end in a draw.

Mönchengladbach vs Freiburg Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups
Mönchengladbach don’t have too many injury worries for this one. Nathan Ngoumou has played his final match of the season after suffering a serious injury. Kleindienst will lead the attack as ever. He served a suspension for the red card he picked up against Werder Bremen but has since returned. Philipp Sander is battling illness and Moritz Nicolas remains out after undergoing surgery.
Don’t expect many changes from Julian Schuster. He rarely rotates his Freiburg eleven and is keeping the faith as they aim to get back to winning ways. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh is nearing a return after an ACL injury. Noah Atubolu went off injured in the 2-1 defeat against Union Berlin so the manager will be forced to change his goalkeeper.
Monchengladbach possible starting lineup:
Cardoso; Scally, Itakura, Elvedi, Ullrich; Weigl, Reitz, Hack; Plea, Stoger, Kleindienst
Freiburgpossible starting lineup:
Muller; Sildillia. Linehart, Gulde, Gunter; Eggestein, Osterhage, Holer; Doan, Grifo, Gregoritsch
