Bolivar vs Flamengo Prediction 1: Altitude advantage
Brazil, Copa Libertadores, Friday, August 23rd, 01:30 (UK)
If Bolivar were offered a 2-0 defeat at the Maracana in the first leg, they would have shaken hands and headed back to La Paz rather content. However, conceding a second goal in the final minute would have hurt after battling so bravely.
Still, they are very much in the tie and that was the main aim. Having successfully beaten Flamengo on home soil in this year’s group stage, as well as back in 2014, this will be worrying times for Tite.
Flamengo also face Botafogo in the league at the weekend, and key players will have to feature in such an important fixture – far from ideal in the circumstances. To make matters even worse, their star striker Pedro came off injured in the first half, and they really struggled without him.
Having scored 39 goals in 2024, and with their second top goalscorer on seven, you have to worry about where the goals are coming from.
Bolivar will be all out attack from the off. Their extremely high altitude advantage will see Flamengo suffer, and the Bolivian team can “spring a surprise” once more against the tournament favourites.

Bolivar vs Flamengo Prediction 2: Corners are key
This is the bet which appeals most out of all three I’m putting forward. If Bolivar fails to get over the line, expect them to dominate the corner count from the first minute.
In their group stage match against Flamengo, Bolivar finished with nine corners, whereas Flamengo didn’t get a single one all match.
When they faced Internacional in the quarter-finals last season, Bolivar may have fallen to a disappointing (and undeserved) 1-0 defeat, but the hosts racked up 15 corners within 90 minutes.
If an early goal comes for Bolivar, the crowd will be right behind them, and Flamengo may struggle to know how to deal with it.
Expect Tite’s side to attempt to conserve energy and slow the game down, but that will play right into Bolivar’s hands as they attempt to claw back the two goal deficit.
This game is finely poised and Bolivar will be licking their lips with the chance to beat the Brazilian giants once again this campaign.
- Bolivar vs Flamengo Prediction 2: Bolivar 7+ corners (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.0
- Bookmaker: Ladbrokes
- Stake: 7/10
Bolivar vs Flamengo Prediction 3: Favourites to fall
For those looking for a chunkier selection, there’s every reason to believe Bolivar can be the team to knock out the tournament favourites this year.
If Bolivar can find a two goal advantage within 90 minutes, which is completely plausible, Flamengo will have to endure a further 30 minutes of football in La Paz. With Brazilian teams often severely struggling to play in these kinds of matches, it’s an advantage once again to the hosts.
Without Pedro, Tite has his work cut out to find a solution. The former Brazilian coach has heavily relied on his star striker but this is the ultimate test – and the impact it will have on the rest of the squad could be what costs Flamengo in this round of 16 tie.
Bolivar will be relentless from the first whistle. Expect wave after wave of attack and if an early goal comes, Flamengo fans will fear the worst. Having been knocked out against Olimpia last year, losing 3-1 in the second leg, it could be about to happen once again.
- Bolivar vs Flamengo Prediction 3: Bolivar to qualify
- Best Odds: 6.0
- Bookmaker: Ladbrokes
- Stake: 5/10
