Argentina reached the semi-finals by the skin of their teeth. A late Ecuador goal forced a penalty shootout in the last round. Emiliano Martinez was the hero for the Argentines once again, saving two penalties to ensure the team went through despite Lionel Messi’s miss.
Lionel Scaloni’s side have lost just one of their 24 matches since being beaten by Saudi Arabia in the group stages of the last World Cup. They were strong favourites to win the Copa America ahead of the tournament but they haven’t reached back-to-back finals since 1959. We’re backing them to do that in style here. Messi is the star of the show for Argentina but their defence also deserves plaudits. Lisandro Martinez and Cristian Romero form one of the most formidable centre-back pairings in international football at present. Argentina vs Canada Copa America 2024 Team News and Possible Lineups
Lautaro Martinez forced his way into the starting eleven at the expense of Julian Alvarez against Ecuador. The Inter Milan striker scored Argentina’s only goal in that game so he is expected to retain his place in the starting eleven here. Angel Di Maria remained on the bench for the win over Ecuador.
There are no fresh injuries or suspensions for Jesse Marsch to worry about here. He could choose to name an unchanged team following a good display against Venezuela. Shaffelburg played as the left winger in that game with Alphonso Davies overlapping from full back.
