Kansas vs Villanova Preview
Kansas and Villanova have played plenty of big games in the recent years, but this one is creating some flashbacks to their 2018 Final Four match, where Jay Wright and Villanova Wildcats put a severe beating on Kansas, that they are sure to keep in the back of their minds this time around. Just ask Kansas coach Bill Self. The legend says he is yet to watch the tape of that game, where ‘Nova opened 22-5 on them and dropped 18 3-pointers in a 95-79 rout. Is it time for revenge?
As a No. 1 seed, Kansas have been solid, if unspectacular, all tournament, taking care of No. 16 seed Texas Southern in the first round 83-56 and No. 9 seed Creighton 79-72 in the second round. Their first challenge came in the Sweet 16 game against No. 4 seed Providence in a close 66-61 win. Finally, in the Elite Eight, Kansas destroyed No. 10 seed Miami 76-50.
Villanova has been equally impressive as a No. 2 seed. No. 15 seed Delaware were their victims in the first round of the tournament in a 80-60 one-sided win, and they took care of No. 7 seed Ohio State 71-61 in the second round. Sweet 16 matchup against No. 11 Michigan was the next challenge, in a 63-55 defensive win. The Elite Eight game against No. 5 seed Houston was even stingier, as ‘Nova won 50-44 for a chance in the Final Four.
Kansas vs Villanova Prediction
Kansas would normally enter this game a slight favorite over Villanova, but a tough injury to Wildcats’ star guard Justin Moore in the matchup against Houston, is making Kansas a heavy favorite to win this one. Although the spread is at 4.5 for Kansas, this is plenty in what is expected to be a defensive game.
We have trouble seeing Villanova winning this one after the loss of Justin Moore, but I do believe that they have the talent and smarts to make this one a tough, grind-out type of game and keep the score low.
