After ending the regular season with a loss to Fenerbahce, Bayern enter the perilous play-in tournament. Tuesday night sees the team from Bavaria host Red Star, who have had a couple of days of extra rest before this game.

This is a winner-takes-all game for the ninth and 10th seeds. A loss will send them home, while a win will give them a second win-or-go-home matchup against the loser for Real Madrid vs. Paris, which is also taking place on Tuesday night.

Bayern vs Red Star Prediction and Picks: Take Road Value

  • Selection: Red Star moneyline
  • Best Odds: 2.30
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stakes: 4/10

Bayern’s stuttering end to the regular season does not inspire confidence. How can we back a team which has blown such a huge chance over the last couple of weeks? There were signs of mental fragility which are likely to carry over into a game with such high stakes.

Red Star also had an end-of-season disappointment, and their record in Munich isn’t good, but this really does feel like a coin-toss game. There’s no way this can be a surprise given the uncertainty of both teams, so the 2.30 odds on a road win is decent value.

Bayern News, Injury Report, Schedule: Stuttering Regular Season Conclusion

Losses to Fenerbahce and Maccabi Tel Aviv in the final two rounds of the regular season undermined what was a strong campaign for Bayern. Instead of a top six place, Bayern are fighting it out with a win-or-go-home game against Red Star on Tuesday night.

Carsen Edwards finished the season with 59 points across the final two games, but it wasn’t enough to compensate for a team which seemed to be crumbling under the pressure. Their defence let them down, conceding 179 points over those two contests. Only two teams had a worse defensive rating in the regular season.

The hosts are likely feeling a bit low on confidence coming into this game. Oscar Da Silva is their only player out through injury.

Red Star News, Injury Report, Schedule: Missing Bolomboy

Joel Bolomboy absence through injury is an issue for Red Star. The team from Belgrade blew a huge opportunity in the final round, conceding a significant lead before an overtime loss. Winning that game would have got them into the seven-eight game.

Instead, Red Star head to Germany knowing they must win to extend their EuroLeague season. They haven’t played a domestic game since their last EuroLeague outing, which could work in their favour as they should be well-rested compared to Bayern.

Look for the road team to be very aggressive on the glass. They are one of Europe’s best offensive rebounding teams.

Bayern vs Red Star H2H: Home Advantage is Huge

Bayern won by 18 points when they hosted Red Star in the regular season. The road team won by 24 points in the reverse fixture, though, and have won their last four home games against Bayern. Home court advantage has been a major factor when these teams have met in the 2020s.
