Germany vs Hungary Prediction 1: A Hungry Hungarian
Euro 2024, Wednesday, June 19th, 17:00 (UK)
Barnabas Varga is a man that many know very little about. The Hungarian has played his club football in Austria and Hungary. He has little international experience, but it’s clear that he knows where the back of the net is. Varga found the back of the net against Switzerland minutes after having a glorious opportunity with his head.
Germany and clean sheets have been hard to come by in recent times. They failed to keep a shutout in ten consecutive matches across 2023. Remarkably, the Germans have registered just four clean sheets in their previous 27 encounters.
I’m expecting Varga to have joy in this encounter. He’s a man in tremendous scoring form. The 29-year-old was crowned top scorer back home after bagging 20 in 24 appearances for Ferencvaros. Our man scored nine times across 11 outings in the Europa Conference League.
I don’t believe a forward who’s full of confidence should be priced as big as he is here. It’s understandable why Germany is the significant favourite. However, they struggle massively to keep opponents out.
Varga managed just 34 touches in the clash with Switzerland. That was the lowest of any player who played 90 minutes. He still scored. Let’s hope he can continue where he left off on Wednesday.
- Germany vs Hungary Prediction 1: Barnabas Varga AGS (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 6.50
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 1/10
Germany vs Hungary Prediction 2: King Kai
Germany’s opening night victory was impressive. It’s fair to say that Scotland helped the cause as they were well off the pace. I expect Hungary to put up a fight, more so than Steve Clarke’s men. I’m backing Arsenal’s Kai Havertz to score again at the MHPArena. Kai scored from the spot in that 5-1 dismantling and looked a real handful throughout.
With sensational players in Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz and Ilkay Gundogan all around you, chances will come if you’re leading the line. Havertz is fantastic at finding space and being in the right place at the right time.
His move from Chelsea raised plenty of eyebrows. Not many believed that it was a good move. He’s proved his worth in his debut season with the Gunners. The German scored 13 times across 37 appearances. His primary position was in midfield. It’s a terrific return.
With Kai on penalty duties, it’s a bonus to our selection. Switzerland created 2.37xG in their victory over Marco Rossi’s men. Nagelsmann and his side will take a lot of confidence from that and will look to pile on the pressure from the get-go. They started fast against Scotland, which paid off massively. Another fast start from Kai and Co will give Hungary a tough time.
- Germany vs Hungary Prediction 2: Kai Havertz AGS (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.25
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 3/10
Germany vs Hungary Prediction 3: Goals To Flow Once Again
The opening two days of Euro 2024 have been excellent. The opening night saw six goals. We saw ten across three matches on Saturday. It’s tricky to back against another high-scoring encounter, given the quality on show, especially in the German squad.
Germany’s riot over Scotland wasn’t a contest. The host nation had an almighty advantage inside 20 minutes after a superb start. Musiala and Wirtz showed their class, whilst Havertz was a constant threat. Toni Kroos had a fabulous time dictating the play as Gundogan kept things ticking.
I fancy another entertaining affair in Stuttgart. Hungary will, of course, pose a threat. They’ll be desperate to earn a positive result from this encounter. They lacked a threat at times in their defeat on Saturday afternoon. They had a period in the second half where they piled on the pressure and looked a threat. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough.
I’m happy to back goals in this one. Germany has many different potential scorers. Julian Nagelsmann’s men could cover this line alone if they perform at a high standard. Hungary will likely be chasing the game at some point, which could lead to an open encounter where goals have the potential to flow.
- Germany vs Hungary Prediction 3: Over 3.0 Goals (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.98
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 3/10

Germany vs Hungary Euro 2024 Team News and Possible Lineups: Germany Ready To Go Once Again
The Germany squad appears fit and ready to take to the field again. With the game wrapped up nice and early, it allowed Nagelsmann to make changes. Andrich, Kroos, Wirtz, Musiala and Havertz were all substituted. They’ll be buzzing to get going again.
Marco Rossi will have some things to address on his side. That opening performance wasn’t good enough. There aren’t any injury concerns, which is a bonus.
Germany possible starting lineup:
Neuer; Kimmich, Rüdiger, Tah, Mittelstadt, Andrich, Kroos, Gundogan, Musiala, Wirtz; Havertz
Hungary possible starting lineup:
Gulacsi; Lang, Orban, Szalai, Fiola, Nagy, Schafer, Kerkez, Sallai, Szoboszlai; Varga
