Euroleague Round 29 Best Bets: March 10th, 11th

The Euroleague is back with 6 more games for Round 29, and I’ve found 2 of the most valuable bets. Crvena Zvezda take on Maccabi Tel Aviv in Belgrade, and Monaco welcome Anadolu Efes to Salle Gaston Médecin. Both bets provide solid value, and I’m going in with some decent stakes.

Crvena Zvezda vs Maccabi Tel Aviv Best Bet

Crvena Zvezda have won 4 of their last 5 Euroleague games, and are coming off a hard-fought 65-62 victory over Real Madrid on Tuesday evening in Belgrade. After a difficult first half of the season, this team has bounced back nicely and are finally looking like a team that can give the top Euroleague teams a run for their money. Their defence has allowed just 69.8 points per game, whilst keeping opponents to just 33.6% from beyond the arc. They play slow, getting most of their points from half-court sets, and enjoy engaging in tough low-scoring games, especially when playing in Belgrade. Their most recent game against Real Madrid saw just 127 points, and the added fatigue will likely force them to go on even fewer fastbreaks than usual.  I still expect a solid defensive outing from them, as they are facing a team that usually doesn’t do well in road games.

Maccabi Tel Aviv also had a slow first half of the season, and have managed to turn things around, and have won 3 of their last 5 games. They are coming off a 94-93 victory over Bitci Baskonia at home, and are in very good shape at the moment. Maccabi have averaged 78.8 points per game on respectable shooting numbers, along with an excellent free-throw percentage of 83.0%. But Maccabi have been plagued by road fatigue. Maccabi have won just 3 of their 13 away games this season, and their offence has scored just 64.5 points in their last 2 road games, and I don’t expect they’ll fare much better against Zvezda in Belgrade. Everything is pointing to a slow and low-scoring affair between these two teams, and I’m backing the Under tonight.

Monaco vs Anadolu Efes Best Bet

Monaco have had a very difficult 2021/22 Euroleague season so far, winning just 7 games until late December, but since the new year, they have an impressive record of 7-3. The coaching change that saw Sasa Obradovic taking the reins has given results, and they are now 8th in the Euroleague standings with 14 wins and 14 losses. They are coming off a close 88-83 loss to Barcelona on the road, but they are coming back to Salle Gaston Médecin where they have fared much better. Their defence has consistently been excellent this season, averaging 83.4 points per game on excellent shooting numbers, and even their lacklustre defence has improved in recent games. Monaco are coming into this game well-rested and their defence should be able to at least contain the fatigued Anadolu Efes backcourt.

Meanwhile, Anadolu Efes are still struggling to find consistent success due to their heavy reliance on the backcourt of Vasilije Micic and Shane Larkin. They are sitting 7th in the Euroleague standings, but are coming off a difficult 87-74 Tuesday loss to Bitci Baskonia, and will be travelling from Vitoria-Gasteiz to Fontvieille. Efes have been a terrible defensive side this season, allowing 80.1 points per game, and allowing opponents to shoot 36.6% from behind the 3-point line. Their offence also tends to struggle when facing teams that have solid perimeter defence, and even when their main scorers produce points, the rest of their team remains passive. I expect fatigue to be a huge factor for Eves in this game, and I expect to see more of the same from their defence, allowing Monaco to take advantage.
